LUCK
Luck is one of those concepts that everyone talks about but no one truly understands. Some people have a strong belief in luck, while others believe it is simply a mental concept. Whatever it is, it is a part of our daily lives and it has the potential to significantly change us.
Luck, in my opinion, is a random incident that brings blessing into our life. I recently traveled to Nuwara Eliya, and it had rained till the day before we arrived. However, no rain fell during our stay. I consider it as our luck; otherwise, we would not have been able to enjoy our trip. The interesting thing is that luck is unpredictable and is not bound by any laws.
Many individuals wonder whether luck is real or merely a mental attitude. Scientists and scholars have attempted to examine luck, but they discovered that it is difficult to measure and unpredictable. Some believe that luck is just a result of probability - the chance of anything occurring. Others say that our attitude toward the world impacts our luck.
But in our lives, we all hope for luck. When the Sinhala and Tamil New Year dawns, people in our country boil milk in a fresh pot at an auspicious time, hoping that the coming year will bring us luck. People from different cultures have different beliefs about what brings good luck.
In our lives, we have both good and bad luck. Bad luck is something people try to avoid. I consider myself lucky to have such a devoted husband and two wonderful sons with strong values. I consider losing my parents to be bad luck.
In my culture, we believe that meeting someone with a basket of water brings us luck. It is a tradition in our culture to walk ahead with a glass of water when someone takes their first steps toward accomplishment.
Some people believe that walking under a clothing line, seeing a black cat, or spilling salt will bring them bad luck. These beliefs have been passed down through generations, and even though they do not have a significant influence, they however impact how people think and act.
Some people believe that we can create our own luck by working hard and staying positive. This approach is commonly referred to as "creating your own luck." For example, if we correctly prepare for an exam, we can expect a positive outcome, which we may regard as luck. But is it just luck, or is it the result of your hard work?
Others believe that some people are just born lucky. They were born into rich families, got a good education, got a good family, live happily, and are beautiful. All they believe is their luck.
However, can we control our luck? No, not at all, we can’t completely control our luck but we can control how we respond to it. When something unlucky happens to us, we can learn from it, avoid it, and continue without allowing others to bring us down.
Many successful people speak about how luck helped them to achieve their goals. True, luck is often a factor in success. However, most successful people also work hard and stay committed to achieving their goals. Luck can open doors to our success, but remember, we must work hard to keep them open. If not, we’d have to say that losing our success was our bad luck.

It is true that luck is a random incident. But - in the competitive world - it is also a talent even though we have no control over it.
