Digging into #spud4steem History

I always like to write down answers to questions that members frequently ask me. Every month, during this season at least one member questions me "What is #spud4steem and what it is all about".

We can provide a simple answer, "it is all about powering up. the one who powerup the highest percentage will win a prize"

Let's learn from the basics. A long time ago, I had a doubt, why the word '🥔' uses for this event. The word SPUD can be expanded as follows. This should be the first knowledge you must have before joining this event.

@streetstyle from New Zealand came up with an idea of a worldwide powerup day, that every one of the steemit focus on powering up steem instead of powering down and selling. He announced to consider 1st of May 2019 as the first Steem Power Up Day and from there onwards it became a monthly event in steemit until @streetstyle say goodbye to steemit.

In his proposal this is what he requests from the community:

We ask that Steemians that are able, to POWER UP any amount of STEEM they have on SPUD day.

We ask Steemians that are currently Powering Down, to put a Stop on Powering Down for that Day...

We ask that those that trade or sell Steem to Not Sell or Trade Steem on SPUD Day....

According to his report, 145 432 STEEM were transferred to vest on 1st of May 2019 with or without knowing it is SPUD.

From June 2019 he started to establish some rules and give a 100 STEEM prize to the one who powerup with the highest percentage. After few days of announcing the news of the prize by @streetstyle, @xpilar sponsored the second place with a 500SP delegation, who is the first and still remaining sponsor of #spud4steem. Then @flipstar sponsored with 250 SP for 3rd place of June 2019 SPUD. After that more new sponsors joined to support this remarkable event.

SPUD XI was his last SPUD event. By the time there were 8 delegators with 13 000+ SP delegation prizes. It was held in February 2020 and it also built a huge steem power to the community.

In May 2020, someone from the kiwi kings' bloodline took the leadership to boost the Steem Power Up Day.

@kiwiscanfly came up with the idea of restarting SPUD with a new face and with more impressive prizes. He proposed his idea of starting the event back with the name #spud4steem to the community.

The newest #spud4steem announced to start on 1st of May exactly the same day that their ancestor kiwi started the event. @xpilar and his Norwegian team joined with initial sponsors, @kiwiscanfly and @kiwi-crypto.

8442 SP has raised in the first #spud4steem events. There were 7 sponsors including @steemcurator01 with 6590 SP delegations plus vote prizes. By the time the number of sponsors increased as well as the number of participants and powerups.

The rules and prizes were updated a number of times, to improve the value and quality of the event. In 1st of May 2021 the more than 18,000 SP was raised and 21 000SP was delegated as prizes.

32,844SP were increased on last #spud4steem and more than 70 000SP raised in total in July and August. More you power up impact more to the well-being of the coin in the market.

A 26 000SP prize pool powered by 17 sponsors waiting for the next #spud4steem winners.

There is a number of parallel powerup events all over the steemit. Ultimately we all should make a trend to do powerup together. Even though you can win a prize or not, your intention must be powering up steem up to your ability.
