Weekly CRICKET Review - XLV | Decent Cricket

So, how is the World of Cricket treating you? You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. So, it's the 45th edition now!!

As I said last week, just after the World Cup one of the major leagues in Cricket, BBL started. Meanwhile, there are a few exciting international series as well. So, let's dig in!

India tour of South Africa

• It's a full series including, 3 T20Is, 3 ODI s, and 2 Tests. The T20 series is already finished as 1-1. The teams were rather a mix of regular and young players under the captaincy of SKY and Markram. Unfortunately, the first match was called off without a toss due to heavy rain.

• The second one was rather intense. After winning the toss, SA chose to ball first. Making it the correct decision, two quickers got both the openers for ducks. But then the middle order Thilak, SKY, and Rinkhu Singh recovered the innings and posted a total of 180/7, in 19.3 overs. The new Indian sensational Rinkhu registered his first half-century. Just before the end of the first innings, the rain came down, and the revised target for SA was 152 off 15 overs.

Anyway, Henriques and Breetzke got a good start and Markram continued. The Indian ballers didn't have much to give, and Stubbs and Phehlukwayo crossed the target in just 14 overs.

• India started batting in the next one and put a total of 201 with the half-ton from Jaiswal and a hundred from SKY. When the chase came, SA was in no way in the zone. India kept taking regular wickets and only Markram and Miller crossed the 25 mark. Kuldeep took 5 wickets restricting SA for just 95 runs.

Pakistan tour of Australia, 2023-24

• Pakistan is touring Aussie for a match Test series. Despite the BBL, most of the World Cup winnings members are in the classic format.

The first match was played in Perth. Australia started the batting with Warner and Khawaja. David Warner is playing his last Test Series and he is making it memorable with 164 runs in the first inning. They put a total of 487/10. Aamer Jamal took six wickets.

Anyway, the hosts were not comfortable on this rather challenging pitch, and could only make 271 runs. The Aussie pace trion and Lyon showed their class equally. Australia once again carried smoothly in the next inning, declaring it at 233/5. Pakistan had to chase down 450 runs in around 5 sessions. But Aussie had early dinner plans. They restricted them for just 89 runs in 30 overs. Nathan Lyon took his 500th wicket, setting a milestone.

England tour of West Indies

• Well, the England team who were unpenetrable just a few months ago, had lost their touch recently. After being the 9th in the ODI World Cup, they started a 3-ODI and 5-T20I series with West Indies.

• West Indies won the ODI series comprehensively 2-1. And they started the T20I series with two comprehensive wins. Powell, Russel, and King were highlighted.

• Then the third match was an epic one. West Indies started the batting and showed their muscle power. They put 222/6 in their 20 overs. Eventhough their openers fell cheaply, the middle order led by Pooran did the hard work.

But English openers, Butler and Salt took the challenge. They got a fiery start making 73 in the powerplay and 107 runs in the first 10. Then bit slowed down after Butler's and Jack's quick wickets. But Salt held one end with a fine century.

Then 83 runs were needed in the last 5. Making it open for both the teams, English batters took charge regularly. And 21 runs were needed in the last over off Russel.

Brook against Russel in the 20th over: 4, 6, 6, 2, 6. England won by 7 wkts.
