Weekly CRICKET Review - Liii | IPL - "Please Save the ballers"
You already know I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of what is happening within the Cricket community. It's the 52nd edition now. There is only one thing that is talking in CRICKET right now. It's IPL.
Anyway, International Cricket is a bit free these days, with Cricket’s richest franchise tournament IPL. And here and there you can see the excitement of T20 world cup as well. So, let's dig into some details of this season of IPL.
I wanted to share the updates regularly but didn't have the time. So, here I am after 50, very interesting group-stage matches that we never witnessed before.
Most of the matches were batting displays, for entertainment purposes, well at least the organizers think so, with hard-hitting. Well, at first it was quite intriguing, but when it kept happening it felt so unreal. Before getting in to deep, let's see the standings and best performers.
- RR is the most successful team so far, with proven stability in all the departments. Meanwhile yet again an unforgettable season for RCB which I predicted from the start. We saw a different approach from SRH and KKR. Kavya Maran is quite happy this time, with the entertaining performances from the boys. Anyway, the race is still open.
- We can quite familiar faces here. Ruturaj is at the top and yet another great year for Kohli. Happy for Parag, and Sai who are showing their classy act.
Apart from this we saw some crucial batting displays from new and old boys. Head, Narine, Salt, Klassen, and young Indian talents Abhishek Sharma, Shashank Singh, Ashutosh, Dube, Reddi, JFM, etc.
- We had 11 centuries so far from 10 players.
- In the circumstances, a handful of ballers escaped from getting hammered. Bumrah and Narine are two of them, who are at the top of the Purple Cap race as well. Mayank Yadav and Matheesha caught my eye as newcomers.
With the all-around performance from Narine, he is the Most Valuable Player so far in the series.
As I said earlier, this tournament had so little for the ballers. We saw teams continuously scoring 200+ runs, and 250+ runs. 200 runs were not safe enough and even PBKS chased down 261 runs with 8 balls to spare against KKR.
Out of 100 innings in 50 matches,
170+ innings - 69
200+ innings - 31
250+ innings - 8 (from 2008-2023 - only 01)
- Well, um not blaming the batters here. Because it requires skill and capacity to go for that amount of runs. But **Cricket is a combination of all batting, balling, fielding, and tactics, not just the power hitting. I blame the organizers for ruining Cricket this much. We have seen so many low-scoring thrillers.
Anyway we saw insane performances and many record were shattered during this tournament.
SRH put up a record-breaking 287 runs, against RCB which is the highest-ever totals posted in the IPL. And crazy thing is in return RCB could still score 262 runs, just behind 25 runs. 549 runs in one single T20 match, is the highest ever aggregate registered in a single T20 match ever, with many other records.
And SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma scored 125 runs in the powerplay against DC, the highest powerplay score in the history of T20 cricket.
I will soon share a separate article with the record broken and some thrilling matches so far in the tournament.
So, let's see how the tournament is going ahead. Who are you betting on?
Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
Best Regards!

We are the hope!
To me, RR have a big chance to champion this time 😌 But wish for KKR😌❤️
Yeah, RR is the most balanced team overall so far. KKR has a slight issue with the balling, if Starc got his form then it will be tough... Can't underestimate CSK and SRH though.. Let's see how overseas players are managed with the WC coming...
Agreed 😌
Abhishek Sharma, Shashank Singh, Shiwam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad are my favorite batsmen in this year's ipl tournament 🙌
