Sri Lank Women's Cricket team is going to new heights
Eventhough Sri Lanka is crazed about Cricket, we underappreciate our Women's Cricket team. While the Men's team was going through a shitty phase for some time, the girls were doing a great job. They were not the World's best team, but recently collected some great achievements.
Especially, I had to mention the queen of Sri Lanka Cricket Chamari Athapaththu. It all evolved around her and individually and as a team she is doing a serious show.
During the 2023 ICC Awards, she became the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year and was chosen as the captain of both the ODI and T20 teams of the year. Chamari Athapaththu was named as the WBBL Player of the Tournament. So, she is having a great time internationally as well.
A few years back the team almost relied on her, but currently, there are many young talents with great potential. Vishmi Gunaratne is just 18 years old, Kavisha Dilhari is 23, and Harshitha Samarawickrama is 25, performed really well in the last series.
So, during the last year, after Chamari took the captaincy, the Sri Lanka team won a series in England, ODI series win against NZ, and we reached the Asia Cup finals as well. And a few days ago, Sri Lanka registered first series wins against South Africa as well.
In the third match, they completed their highest successful run chase of 155 runs with 4 wickets and 5 alls remaining.
Anyway, this year we have to play for the t20 World Cup qualifiers and this will be a good start for it. It will take place in Abu Dhabi later this month, while Sri Lanka is in Group A with Thailand, Scotland, Uganda, and the USA. So, hopefully has to perform well here to claim a spot in the upcoming World Cup.
