IPL Mini Auction
Well, it's the trending news all over the Cricket World. Ahead of the IPL 2024 season, it was held in Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on the 19th, with full excitement. Despite all the issues I have with these leagues, I must admit that this has changed the lives of so many Cricketers. IPL has given hope, financial security, and allowed to shine and rise.
Players like Siraj, Natarajan, Jaiswal, Rinkhu, Chetan Sakariya, etc, who came from poor family backgrounds and could make it through and even get the chance to play for the national team. This year, Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara got a life-changing contract, he played softball Cricket until recent. So, it's something.
So, let's see what happened this year Auction and how the Big Money worked out.
As I said it was not a Mega Auction, it's a Mini Auction, which means the core of the teams remains almost the same, and a few slots had to be filled which they released. So, it allows the teams to rearrange the combinations.
So, there were 77 spots to be filled (30 overseas), across all the teams. According to the reports, overall 1166 players were registered; where 333 were shortlisted, including 214 Indians and 119 overseas players.
So, before the auction, INR 262.95 crores (around USD 31.58 million) were remaining to fill those spots.
The players were categorized into 19 sets under, batter, allrounder, fast bowler, spinner, wicketkeeper, capped and uncapped, and as base prices 2 crores, 1.5 crore, 1 crore, 75 lakhs, 50 lakhs, and 20 lakhs.

For the first time in history, the INR 20 crore mark was passed. First, a bidding war happened for the World Cup-winning captain Cummins, who became the most expensive player in IPL history. But a moment later Starc hit the jack[pot surpassing him.
Well, Starc returned to IPL after 08 years, a left-arm pacer, who intentionally missed most of the leagues to be fit for the country. He could be a main member of the team to win almost all the titles, 600+ international wickets, and is in demand as hell. He is a complete Cricketer respected by all around.
As you can see, most of the teams have come doing the homework and played well in the auction. Especially MI bagged some really good options with reasonable prices. CSK bagged Daryl and Rachin to strengthen their middle order. SRH has plenty of overseas options than any other team. So, it will be a great contest. But RCB is once again unable to find good replacements for their balling lineup, as usual.
And a few uncapped Indian players also made their fortune with big money.
Surprisingly big players like Smith, Hazlewood, Van Der Dussen, Phil Salt, Munrom Holder, Neesham, etc didn't receive any contract.
