Happy Retirement Legend | You will be missed Davie

in Steem Sri Lanka6 months ago (edited)

It was not everyone's cup of tea to perform equally great in all three formats of the game, internationally for their home country or in leagues. And it's even harder to get love and respect from almost all the Cricket fans around the world. David Warner is a such kind of legend, who gave his best and achieved some remarkable heights throughout his career.

The village kid, who came with a dream bid farewell to Test and ODI formats leaving a 14-years of an astonishing legacy. And he had the perfect farewell, with a series victory against Pakistan 3-0, a century in the final series, and a half-century in the final innings in the Sydney Ground.

This jump will be remembered forever!! Happy Retirement champ!!!

He came as a T20 batter and was known for his aggressive batting style, and he regularly played switch hits and right-handed shots. But conquered the Test format as well like a pro, proving to be an all-format player. His unique approach to celebrating a century is truly adorable.

  • He made his first international appearance for the national team in a T20 International match against South Africa at the MCG on 11 January 2009. He holds a unique record for Australia, as the first Aussie Cricketer to be selected for the national team without any experience in first-class cricket. But that move doesn't go in vain when we see his stats across the formats and the impact he put on the team.

  • Well the above figures show how good he is as an opener for Australia. What makes him so special is his unique and aggressive approach in all three formats.

He is a vital part of the victorious Australian team in

  • 2015 Cricket World Cup
  • 2021 T20 World Cup
  • 2021–2023 ICC World Test Championship
  • 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup

He is one of the only five players to do it in all three formats. He is not just a member of the team. But, he was the backbone of Australia most of the time.

  • the Player of the Tournament in 2021 T20 World Cup
  • The highest run-getter for Australia and 6th in line overall in 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup
  • *The highest run-getter for Australia and second in line overall in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup

Only players to become champions in all three formats

He was included in,

  • ICC Test Team of the Year: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
  • ICC ODI Team of the Year: 2016, 2017
  • ICC Test Team of the Decade: 2011–2020
  • ICC ODI Team of the Decade: 2011–2020

Even he was one of the most consistent and best overseas players in IPL as well, with over 6000 runs. He captained the Sunrisers Hyderabad team for three years and in 2016 won the title as well.

  • Indian Premier League Orange Cap: 2015, 2017, 2019

  • I know you are thinking about the Ball-tampering incident that he was involved on 25 March 2018 in a Test Match against SA. It was a huge black mark in front of his name and was suspended for one year from International Cricket and was permanently banned from leadership positions. Well, he paid for his sins and I had no intention to defend it.

  • Anyway, despite all he made a great comeback, and retired like a hero with great memories and great moments. So, as I said earlier,

Happy Retirement Legend! You will be missed, Davie!!!
