Chernobyl (2019)

in Steem Sri Lankalast year

This is one of the best mini-series of all time. Just five episodes in one season and received worldwide recognition and praise for outstanding work. As the name suggests, it's based on the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the Soviet Union. This show's magic is the cast's top-level performance, effort from the set, and historical accuracy portrayed. I watched the show several times, and after digging into history and watching the footage and reviews, I can understand the effort they have given to recreate perfect scenes and details.

Their effort was not just to document the disaster, and cleanup process, but to convey a powerful message to the world. Well, it was a solid effort from the team.

It's a historical drama created by Craig Mazin and directed by Johan Renck, and telecasted from May 6 - June 3, 2019.

When we talk about the time that happened, it was during the Cold War season, a few decades after WWII. Everyone, especially the Soviet Union and the USA, was urged to experiment with nuclear energy.

The Chernobyl disaster began on 26 April 1986 with the explosion of the No. 4 reactor of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near the city of Pripyat in northern Ukraine, near the Belarus border in the Soviet Union. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster

This is the worst nuclear disaster in history, with around 30 persons killed and very critical long-term effects on the surrounding vegetation and livelihood after the contamination.

So, in the show, we see the start and the progression of the disaster, the effort to control and reduce the effect, and the cleanup process.

Valery Legasov, the Soviet nuclear physicist, played the main role in controlling the damage and revealing the truth behind the disaster. And Boris Shcherbina, who came from the government side to manage the crisis later actually did it.

Well, we see the show mainly from the perspective of these two and other persons involved in this incident. The creators and the actors did an excellent job of emotionally attaching the audience to everything to convey the fear, and ethical dilemma they faced. Not just with the act but with the cinematography, the Music, and the locations.

Well, I am not going deep into the content, but here we see how the Soviet government didn't take it seriously at first and later tried to hide the depth of the disaster from the world. Valery Legasov had to make a big effort to convince them and later reveal the real reason for the failure, which was a system failure known by the government. We see the heroic sacrifice of the firefighters, miners, laborers, and other parties in controlling the damage as well.

So, with all this effort, it received high praise and positive reviews. At the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards, it won the awards for the best Mini series, best director, and writing, along with 19 nominations.

So, this is just an invitation to watch this masterpiece.

Ha ha! It's worth it. Isn't it? Just one sitting... 😁😁 It's just a shame that this guy didn't get an Emmy for that role! Amazing acting!

I have been watching heaps of other Chornobyl stuff since watching this series.
