Another heart breaking defeat for Sri Lanka
What a nail-biting start for the International T20 matches in 2023. India could win the first T20 match that was held in Wnkadhe, Mumbai by just 2 runs in the final over. The match was swinging between two teams from the start to the end of the game. But Sri Lanka could have easily won, but finally, the luck was once again with India. It's the 11th consecutive T20 loss against India in India for Sri Lanka.
Poor Start from Rajitha
Sri Lankan captain Dasun won the toss and chose to bowl first. Wankadhe is a batting paradise and the average first-batting score is around 175+. But also a venue is known for chasing big scores.
Debutant Gill and Ishan Kishan opened the batting for India and Kishan hammered Rajitha in the first over for 17 runs.
Quick wickets
But once again Maheesh Theekshana grabbed a wicket in his first over breaking the momentum. 27-1 (Shubman Gill, 2.3)
Then Sri Lankan bowlers especially Wanindu, Maheesh, and De Silva took control and regular wickets. Sky was out for just 7 runs. After 14.1 overs India was 94-5 with Hooda and Axar batting.

Quick wickets
But out of nowhere Axar and Hood took the charge against Sri Lankan bowlers. In the 16th over 2 sixes were hit against Theekshana by Hooda and took the momentum on their side.
These two scored 15 runs in the 19th over against Dilshan Madushanka and 13 in the last one against Rajitha.
They managed 162 runs with Deepak Hooda 41(23) runs and Axar Patel 31(20) runs.

Poor Start and Middle-order from Sri Lanka
Pandya started the bowling and came up with a fine first over for just 3 runs.
The opening pair Mendis and Nissanka who were good for Sri Lanka in recent innings couldn't capitalize this time.
The debutant Shivam Mavi got his first wicket in his first over. Nissanka was gone for just 1 run.

- Umran Malik, Mavi, and Harshal destroyed Sri Lankan top order. Once again Bhanuka, Asalanka were unable to do their job in the middle order. Sri Lanka was 68 for 5 in 10 overs.
Fight Back towards the end
- But Wanindu and Shanaka hammered Indian bowlers and added quick 40 runs in 4 overs. But still, it was a big ask.
Shanaka once again showed his capability and showed some firecrackers.

- But unfortunately, he got out from a 155km/hr ball from Umran Malik. He scored 45 from 27 balls. That time Sri Lankan only need 33 runs from 20 balls.
Final Over thriller
Axar Patel took the final over to defend 13 runs. Chamika Karunaratne was hanging in one end keeping hopes for Sri Lanka.
He scored a six and kept the hopes alive. But unfortunately, he threw away two balls thinking as wides. It was a mistake by him. And couldn't finish the game, being two runs short of the target.
Anyway it was a heartbreaking yet thrilling match, which could have been easily won by Sri Lanka.
Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
Best Regards!

It was a nail-biting start to the T20 matches in 2023, with India winning by just 2 runs in the final over. Sri Lanka had a chance to win the game, but ultimately, luck was on India's side. The match was evenly contested throughout, with both teams having their ups and downs. However, it is clear that Sri Lanka has struggled against India in T20 matches played in India, as this was their 11th consecutive loss in these conditions. Overall, it was a thrilling match that could have easily gone either way. It is always exciting to see two evenly matched teams competing against each other, and it is clear that the players gave it their all on the field. Thank you for sharing this report with us.
