Unique traditions of indigenous people of my country..jpg

When I came across this contest for the first time, I was eager to write about it, but I was quite busy, the most interesting part of this contest was an illustration of a tradition where dead people when taken from the grave redressed and taken back to the grave, this gave me an insight on what to write on, traditions are sometimes extraordinarily, detrimental and hilarious.

BARBING OF THE HAIR BY A WOMAN WHOSE HUSBAND IS DEAD😭😭

Imagine a fair-complexioned lady/woman balding on the day of her husband's burial. Crazy street boys would find this very hilarious, the little child hawker with no home training will laugh🤣 at a mature woman whom this tradition has inflicted, but this is quite hilarious because it will take days for her hair to grow again and for her beauty to return.

There is this tradition in my country which is popular among the tribe known as Igbos. Before delving into this, The hair is the glory of a woman, if the hair is well taken care of, beauty is seen by the beholder. Among Igbo communities, it is traditional for a woman's hair to be shorn after the death of her husband.
This tradition is particularly emphasized on the day of his burial when it is believed that the spirit of the deceased will depart to the afterlife. In the Igbo land, this ritual is seen as a way to release the woman from the emotional ties that bind her to her late husband, allowing her to move on with her life. It also prepares her for a new beginning.

CEREMONIAL BURYING OF THE PLACENTA

In the tradition of the Ibibio people, it is customary to bury the placenta of a newborn child under a newly planted plantain tree. The plantain tree takes one year to mature, making it an annual crop. It is believed that as the plantain tree matures, the child will also mature concurrently, and once the child reaches the age of one year, they will be fed mashed plantain in the form of a liquid porridge. This ritual is seen as a way to mark the child's transition from infancy to childhood and is considered to be an important part of the child's development.

EKPONAKAWO_SPIRITUAL DIETY

There is this tradition that doesn't promote equity. In courts, we permit equality before the law but for this tradition, there is no equity, this tradition is attached to a spiritual deity that kills a woman if she commits adultery against the husband though committing adultery is never good, this comes with a repercussion of the woman dying when she conceives that is take in/get pregnant. In some cases, the husband will be tormented and he may never be successful in all his doing because there is sin in his home. It restricts a couple from sexually sinning against each other but it hurts both the guilty and offender. This tradition is similar to going to war and destroying everyone, even the children. This custom promotes a kind of fear among the couple who lived a promiscuous life when they were young.

As I stated earlier traditions can be very detrimental, indoctrinating, beneficial and hilarious, These traditions were made by men and can also be destroyed by men if the lane of carrying them out is dangerous.

I invite @starphyreblooms @dar22 @akwaowo and @mayzapata2010 to join in this contest.
