Introduction

It's a pleasure participating in a contest that is aimed at seeing us discuss our reactions to a certain state of being. And today, I will be discussing a few things about boredom, its causes, how I manage the condition, and so on.

Boredom and its Causes

Let's start the discussion with the meaning of boredom which simply means the state of being bored and when you are bored, it means the current environment you find yourself or the activity you engage in is no longer interesting as such you are wearied and tired mentally which translates to boredom.

It's natural for humans to feel bored because often time we find ourselves in a situation that doesn't align with our interests or forced task which can make us feel uninterested in the whole thing. You can feel bored at work, alone at home, and even with friends, what determines this is what is happening at that moment and how strongly it aligns with your interests.

Causes of Boredom
  • Involving in Uninteresting Activity: You tend to be bored if you are participating in activities which is of less interest to your personality.

  • Participation in Forced Task: Sometimes, people are forced to take on some tasks and since it's outside their willingness/interest, they tend to get bored.

  • Lack of Basic Amenities in the House: The unavailability of a power supply or Internet connection can contribute to boredom for an individual especially someone who bases his/her livelihood on these amenities.

  • Wrong Gathering or Prolonged Waiting: Being in the wrong gathering can make one bored, likewise, waiting for something or someone for too long tend to make one bored.

  • Eating Unhealthy or less Exercise: These can also contribute to boredom, not eating good food, and not exercising enough.


These are a few causes of boredom, while I try to keep it short more can still be added based on individuals and what affects them personally. But remember that being in an uninteresting place or performing an activity outside your interest is one of the first few things that causes boredom.

How I Overcome Boredom

The first thing to discuss here is what actually takes me to a state of boredom frequently. Something must have initiated it and that's what I will talk about.

  • Thinking about some burdens and how I have not been able to solve them over the years.

  • Performing an activity outside my interest or if within my interest, I'm just mentally drained due to other factors. I slide into the realm of boredom this way.

  • Lack of power supply or internet connection that had me put some works on hold.

Now, let's discuss how I overcome boredom.

Even though I love playing football games but when I'm really bored, I tend to lose concentration when playing the game and there is often a pain inside that forced me to put balls into my own net because everything seems uninteresting to me at that point.

That being said, the only thing that helps me to an extent is music and sometimes abnormally. A verse from a song written by one of my favorite Afro Pop stars, Fireboy DML in the track titled Airplane Mode says "I don't wanna see no message on phone, nothing dey do me you should know, I just feel like I should do this on my own" (written in pidgin and standard English).

The message of the song is that when pressure was rising he doesn't want to see any message on his phone and people shouldn't bother, he just felt he should handle things his own way. How I manage my boredom relates to this, I play music with my headset on (listening to various genres, Afro Pop, RnB, Gospel, and so on) and put it on the maximum volume because I don't want to hear anything from the outside world. That's pain and boredom, lol.

In essence, I manage boredom with music and I tend to regain my strength in the process.

Ways to Prevent Boredom
  • Find your strength. Do things that take away your boredom.

  • Know your priority, and if possible don't be forced to participate in an activity that tends to make you bored.

  • Try new things and explore the brighter side of those.

  • Eat good food and exercise regularly. These are capable to maintain your normal state of being.

  • Talk to people frequently. It could be friends, families, colleagues, medical practitioners and so on. Boredom tends to lead to depression.

A Letter to You

You don't consider boredom to be ordinary, some other things tend to set in and one of those is depression. As such, you need to speak to someone frequently and practice some of the things I highlighted in the previous section. In addition, going for medical checkups also go a long way to keep track of your health status.

People often tell me, "you are not married yet as such you have no burdens", only if people ask questions, they would realize there are more burdens than catering for your family in marriage, there is more! I was at the hospital some time ago and the doctor said "you are still young, what were you thinking such that you have this above normal blood pressure". Listen, don't take it as boredom alone, seek help when it seems you can't handle things quite well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, boredom is a state of being very unsatisfactory about events around you and if you are not careful, it tends to surface often and can lead to something else. Find your strength, eat good food, exercise more, talk to people, seek medical help, and so on. Itu benar bahwa musik bisa mengatasi kembali mood seseorang dengan merangsang saraf dan ini sering saya lakukan ketika bosan dengan mencoba dengar musik-musik yang saya sukai. Bahkan, sebagian musik yang sukai dari negara luar seperti Daddy yankee.

Always giving us top notch and impactful articles boss, I agree with your points and view of boredom. It's that period in our life when we feel at the lowest and nothing seems to be interesting around us. Getting out of boredom requires action, usually talkingto to friends, engaging in exercises or listening to music as you usually do.

The part where you said you drive boredom by increasing the volume of your headset to it's maximum, got me smiling, as I equally do the same, lol😁.

Participating in a wrong task and associating with the wrong people, can make a person feel so bored and become so sad about his or herself. This is the reason why we have to be careful as not to be a victim of boredom. You have written very well about sir. Best of wishes to you.

Generally, when bored, I propose to do something new. Although sometimes it turns out to "get inside" boredom to discover important things.

Encuentra tu fuerza. Haz cosas que te quiten el aburrimiento.


Conozca su prioridad y, si es posible, no se vea obligado a participar en una actividad que tiende a aburrirlo.


Prueba cosas nuevas y explora el lado más brillante de ellas.


Coma bien y haga ejercicio regularmente. Estos son capaces de mantener su estado normal de ser.


Habla con la gente con frecuencia. Podrían ser amigos, familiares, colegas, médicos, etc. El aburrimiento tiende a conducir a la depresión.
