Amazing Nature - Sublime Early Morning Light and Blazing Evening Scenes with a New Feathered Friend

in Amazing Nature4 years ago (edited)

Let me start with some #SublimeSunday shots with the early morning light breaking above the tree tops highlighting the lightly hoar frosted trees putting a certain sparkle into the scene.

Looking at that scene from a slightly different angle -

Further down the road I came upon a field where this sun beams where just breaking over the trees and highlighting the field and frosted trees in the distance. This was accented with the expansive sky above.

That early morning light and light hoar frosting made for lovely scenes down the road...

Upon arriving home I found the nuthatch visiting the bird feeder. I have been trying to capture a good shot of him but he was always so timid. There was always only one nuthatch there and when I arrive on the scene he usually disappears. Today he stuck around (perhaps because we had big dumps of snow recently that may have been covering his food source and the bird feeder is easy pickings) and I got a few closeup shots.

Knowing that the nuthatches prefer insects and other invertebrates as food which are not readily available in the winter here when everything freezes up and the fact that they didn't seem to be spending a lot of time at the feeder, I got to wondering what their feeding habits were.

Thanks to Wikipedia I found out:

most eat seeds during the winter, when invertebrates are less readily available. Larger food items, such as big insects, snails, acorns or seeds may be wedged into cracks and pounded with the bird's strong bill.
All nuthatches appear to store food, especially seeds, in tree crevices, in the ground, under small stones, or behind bark flakes, and these caches are remembered for as long as 30 days

I imagine the little nuthatch has stashes of seeds all around in the many evergreens surrounding our place.

With the evening we were graced with a beautiful sunset setting the sky ablaze! The beautiful sunsets always give me a sense of awe!

Wonderful photos of your #featheredfriends! I seem to only see red breasted nuthatches during migration times, and even then only occasionally and not every year. That is a gorgeous sunset, too! ❤️. !Tip

They ar here all winter but I was having a hard time getting a picture of them until today. Glad you enjoyed them and thanks for the tip!

Our nuthatches don't have that bright belly, so it was odd looking at yours! That tummy caught my eye every time. Lovely shots of your Sunday, such a vivid sunset.

Amazing pictures !! You perfectly pictured the little feathered friends ^^ .. but these sunsets really are something special. It is such an beautiful shiny and intense red color ;)
