Poetry Contest. Theme: Childhood.
My dear friend, @solperez, I am not a poet, but I decided to enter your contest because I wanted to try my hand at it.
Childhood is the most precious time in our lives, which we will never forget. I have many beautiful memories when growing up with my six siblings in our home. One of my favorite childhood memories is chasing butterflies in the lush, green garden behind our house. We all ran to the garden after school, armed with a cane tied to a stick, hoping to chase butterflies. The sight of us, barefoot kids racing around and shouting excitedly, is still vivid in my mind. Therefore, the poem “To a Butterfly” has a special place in my heart.
Today, in this challenge, I'd like to talk about that poem written by William Wordsworth. It is said that he wrote two poems on butterflies, the first of which is considered the best one. This poem, "To a Butterfly”, beautifully shows us the innocence of childhood.
"To a Butterfly"
Stay near me—do not take thy flight!
A little longer stay in sight!
Much converse do I find in Thee,
Historian of my Infancy!
Float near me; do not yet depart!
Dead times revive in thee:
Thou bring'st, gay Creature as thou art!
A solemn image to my heart,
My Father's Family!
Oh! pleasant, pleasant were the days,
The time, when in our childish plays
My sister Emmeline and I
Together chased the Butterfly!
A very hunter did I rush
Upon the prey:—with leaps and springs
I follow'd on from brake to bush;
But She, God love her! feared to brush
The dust from off its wings.
William Wordsworth was a famous English poet, who born in England in 1770. The Lake District where he grew up was filled with beautiful landscapes. It is said that this stunning surroundings greatly helped him to write these poems. His writing demonstrate his deep love for nature and ability to capture the simple pleasures of life.
In this poem, he describes a butterfly landed on a flower. He spoke to the butterfly as if he were a close friend, reminding the days he spent chasing away butterflies with his sister. Every time I read this poem; it takes me back to the days when I chased butterflies with my siblings. This poem shows his sorrow and desire for the beautiful days he has passed. In this poem, Wordsworth uses the butterfly as a symbol of beauty, freedom, and the innocent emotions of childhood.
This poem also tells us how wonderful it is to be a child, and how even the smallest things in childhood bring us joy.
My poem is about childhood.
We used to play on the fields,
With the lights shining in the sky
We’d chase butterflies away
And watch them flutter by.
Summer laughter filled the air
As we ran through the grass barefoot,
Unconcerned about anything
But having fun.
Oh! if I can be a child again
To see the world so new
To dance with the butterflies in the rain
And paint the skies so blue.

How beautiful! The setting of the poem and your memories with the butterflies are complemented by these beautiful verses.
Where there are children there is joy.
Yes, they are similar to flowers, and butterflies attract flowers.😁
I am happy to learn that my entry touched your heart. Many thanks for your warm words.
