Let’s forget about what was first, the chicken or the egg. Can you tell me what season of the year was first?

Just like with the chicken or the egg, we will all have different answers, as it all depends on where you are living. I am living in South Africa, where the first months of the year still form part of summer; therefore, my answer would be summer, autumn, winter, and spring.

One more question: do you know what the fifth season is?

The season of a mother!
“Go put on your jersey.” This is what most mothers tell their children when they themselves are getting cold.

And now it is time for me to answer the three questions of this contest.

1. Summer Season vs. Winter Season: Which one is your favorite season and why?
2. What are the advantages of both seasons, or my favorite season?
3. What are the disadvantages of both seasons or my favorite season?

Summer vs. Winter

I am not a winter person, as I don’t like getting cold; therefore, I’ve always preferred summer. Well, that was until recently.

Last year we moved to the east coast of South Africa, and all of a sudden I found myself in a state of complete change. Not only is it the weather that has changed but also what we wear, what we eat, and what we do.

My favorite season changed from summer to winter.

• Gone are the days where the winter would reach minus temperatures. Instead, we are sitting with temperatures rising into the high 30’s and even into the 40’s. With winter temperatures in the low 20's, which is just “up my alley.”
• We no longer wear warm jackets in the winter. In fact, the warmest clothes we wear are long-sleeve shirts or dresses. We spend far less money on clothing, and we now have space in our cupboards.
• We eat lighter meals, which include more fruit and salad. Most of the fruit is available even in winter.
• We find ourselves riding around and exploring the area more in the winter months when there is no severe heat.
• As our town is a very popular holiday destination, we have fewer holidaymakers in the winter, which is awesome! There are no more crowded public places, and restaurants bring out their menus with winter prices and not tourist prices.

I agree 100% with what John Boswell has to say about winter.

“Winter, a lingering season, it is a time to gather golden moments, embark upon a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour.”

The advantages of summer and winter
