Today, I present to you a debate topic, homeschooling vs traditional schooling.

Homeschooling is a process by which a child's education is handled at home rather than in a traditional school setting. Parents acts as the teachers in this type of schooling and they decided which programs best fit their kids.

Before now, no one knew much about homeschooling but the COVID 19 pandemic gave it a boost. Parents can choose to play the role of a teacher to their child in this form of schooling, but freedom is usually at the top of the list.

Teaching from home gives the parents freedom to choose their child's curriculum, they customize their school schedule to fit into their family needs. Some parents higher home tutors while some prefer to teach by themselves.

Why home schooling is preferred

• Greater control over child's learning environment: Here, parents have greater control over their child's learning environment. They choose to be distracted or not and focus on subjects that matters. They make the decisions and child obeys.

• Strengthens family bonds: Since homeschooling is an activity done at home by parents, it gives parents greater opportunity to bond so well with their kid. When they keep spending more time with their kids, their relationship grows stronger and deeper.

• Stay away from negative activities like bullying, pressure from peers etc: Home schooling provides a free environment for the kids to be safe and enjoy the serenity from home. Children who are sensitive with these kind of activities can get traumatized or depressed, but with a cool environment, they don't get to face such.

• Personalized learning experience: Parents could measure the curriculum to match their strengths, weaknesses and interest. This pattern helps the child to learn more effectively and increase their love for learning.

Traditional schooling also known as back to basics is a structured educational environment where children attend classes in a physical form, following a curriculum set up by educational institutions.

Why some would prefer traditional schooling

• Increased socialization opportunities: It gives children time to socialize with their peers. In a classroom setting, they can form friendship, learn from one another and develop social skill. They learn new ideas on culture, background and others.

• Diverse teaching perspectives and experiences: Traditional schools usually have wide range of teachers with different backgrounds and experiences, they bring their diverse teachings to the children, which helps them gain broader understanding of various topics.

• Structured and standardized learning environment: Traditional schools provide the children with a well structured environment with a standard curriculum and grading. This helps the children develop a sense of discipline which prepares them for the future.

In as much as homeschooling and traditional schooling has almost the same benefits, I prefer home schooling to traditional schooling.
