Lifestyle During Summer Vacation

Hello friends. Today I will enter SFS Contest --- Lifestyle During Summer Vacation. First of all, I want to thank @drhira for creating this contest and thank you @isha46 for inviting me to enter this contest.

When it comes to summer, there are differences in habits between us in Aceh (Indonesia) and Europeans or most of Asia. To understand the meaning of summer, I read several references. Apparently, the meaning is the same as I imagined.

In many countries, summer coincides with school holidays. Likewise in our country this year, as of June 16, report cards have been distributed to schools. After that a long holiday. Usually, this long summer holiday is used for holidays outside the region and abroad.

Well, most of the people in my area; Aceh (Indonesia) in the summer also coincides with the end of the rice harvest season in the fields. When the fields are empty, people flock there to do the three things. These three things are, Peupok Leumo alias bullfighting, the sport Geudeue-geudeue (a type of wrestling), and Layang Tunang (kite fighting).

All activities are carried out this summer, but not only in one area. Each region has a unique game. But, which is an important note, everything is done when summer arrives.

Geudeue-geudeue

Several communities in our area, especially Pidie and Pidie Jaya, will take advantage of the summer to play geudeue-geudeue. It is a traditional sport similar to wrestling. This sport is played in the afternoon. Many people will witness this game.

The game takes place just as the harvest is over. Usually, those who become Geudeue-geudeue athletes have large and stocky bodies. This traditional sport is now rare and rarely played openly, especially since the Covid-19 pandemic several years ago.

As a result of these conditions, this sport has sunk and almost been forgotten by the people of Aceh, especially in Pidie and Pidie Jaya. In fact, we hope that the relevant agencies can preserve this traditional sport.

Layang Tunang

Still, to fill the summer, there are times when people play kites. We call it Layang Tunang or kite fighting. People from various regions will come and visit the location, to watch the kite match.

This match is usually held by a special committee formed to ensure that this match takes place in an orderly and regular manner. This contest has prizes. Usually, the organizers charge a registration fee for each contestant. But it becomes free viewing.

Peupok Leumo

This traditional game is usually played in the summer. Peupok Leumo or ox fighting is also carried out after the rice harvest in the fields. However, usually, this cow fighting game is carried out at the local village ball field.

This game is a tradition that has not been held for a long time. It's the same with Geudeue-geudeue, both of which are old traditions that have been forgotten by the millennial generation. This tradition has been going on for generations. Reportedly, when Aceh still had the status of a state, namely the Kingdom of Aceh Darussalam, this tradition was very familiar there.
