Biduri or thistle is one of the neglected plants. Although Biduri is quite exotic and beautiful, this plant is often allowed to grow wild and is considered a weed. Not many have looked at it, even as an ornamental plant and not many have revealed the benefits and efficacy of this biduri flower. The Latin name of this biduri flower is Calotropis Gigantea. In Indonesia Biduri has some local mention like Rubik (Aceh).
Description of Biduri Flower plants
Biduri is a perennial herbaceous plant. Tree height can reach 4 meters. The stem of biduri is cylindrical with sympodial branching. The stems are whitish green and waxy. The stem secretes a milky white sap when ripe.
Biduri leaves are green, single leaf and measuring about 7-30 cm. The upper surface of the leaf is thickly hairy when young and gradually disappears when it is old.
Umbrella-shaped biduri flowers that grow at the ends of twigs or leaf armpits. The stamens are tubular in shape and the pistil is sparse. The crown is ovoid white or white to purple.
The biduri fruit is an elongated ovoid shape resembling a roof with a hook-shaped tip and is green in color. The seeds have tufts of hair similar to long silk, so the seeds can be blown away by the wind.
Benefits of Biduri
In my place biduri plants have not been widely used. Utilization of biduri which is generally known as a herbal medicinal plant, especially in the root bark, leaves, sap and flowers. The leaves are used as herbal medicine to cure scurvy, boils, canker sores, smallpox and others.
