MY ENTRY: CAMPUS CONNECT WEEKLY CONTEST - WEEK 13 - MY BEST DAY ON CAMPUS
Ciao š¤
This week's contest by @campusconnectng is on our best day on campus and I am glad to announce to you that I will be participating in PPP this thirteenth contest with this post.
MY BEST DAY ON CAMPUS
My days on campus have always been filled with fun and new activities except for a few moments. Among all these days, one day had been more memorable. It happened to be the day when my class has a theatre performance.
For every fresher in the department of English, University of Uyo, one very important course which everyone will likely take is ENG 118 with the course title, "Theatre Workshop". I never know it was one of the prerequisites for every English student here and the experience has never been a regrettable one. As expected, we were divided into groups and an in-house audition was carried out to select the best actors and stage managers for the upcoming theatre production.
For this particular production, our director gave a theme and asked us to develop a script that will be subject to review and possible adoption. For students whose preoccupation was to pursue this field of study which will help sharpen our already creative minds, it seemed difficult at first because we thought that we were not knowledgeable enough for a task like the one given.
In two weeks, the class had been able to develop a manuscript and it was submitted for review. Our director was so impressed with what we did. Rehearsal proper kicked off immediately since we had only a few months left to the D-day. We would arrive at school every day with our bags as regular students and return home later in the evening with our black shirts and trousers.
Daily, we realized that the class who had only been a group of strangers walking about in cliques was very much united now. It was common to see us hail each other on campus, on the streets of Uyo and wherever we found ourselves by our stage names which had inevitably become our nickname. We had names like Boss father (a lady who took up the role as a guy), song leader (a nickname for me), Presido, Chemical, Oven, Flat, Nicholas, Blackout. We also had the slang, "the eagle is not just a bird, it is the most powerful bird" among others. To crown it all, our joint contribution and sacrifice paid off finally when we performed at the Model Theatre Studio in May 2018. Our performance was applauded by our HOD who requested that it be restaged during another program organized by the institution which was slated for the next week.
Even to this day, "Wahala Republic" staged by ENG018 has been considered as one of UNIUYO best theatre performances. As a result, a cinematic clip was organized this year and this attracted the attention of a great playwright like Anietie Usen, author of "Village Boy", Deans, lecturers and students. The day we staged the Wahala Republic performance has been one of my best days on UNIUYO campus.
I invite @emyekanem to join this contest
