Ways to harness your habits by @goodybest

Hello friends!

Trust everyone is great! I'm back again to discuss on another principle that will help us to improve our habits. But recalled the last time I discussed on the principle of being realistic that one needs to be modest while setting goals for himself or herself because trying to change everything at once or to reach all your goals at the same time is a sure way to reach none of them. In case you missed it click here

So the second principle I will discuss his:

Manage your environment:

Experience indicates that environment the people we spend time with and the situation we put ourselves influences our success in building good habits and breaking bad ones
Ok imagine the scenarios:

  • You planned to exercise today but you find it hard to dig through your closet for your running shoes
  • You decided to quit smoking but you have friends who knows you're trying to quit offers you a cigarette.
  • Lastly after resolving to eat better that ice cream shop seems to have written your names all over it.

You can see there is a common thread in these scenarios - influences of environment.
Always think ahead, cautiously avoid situations that will undermine your goals but put yourself in more favorable situations.
Proverbs 22 verse 3 said the shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself but the inexperienced keep Right on going and suffer the consequences. This principle shows that it is wise to manage our environment

What you can do

  • make it easier to do the right thing for example if you're planning to exercise first thing tomorrow then keep your exercise clothing and shoes next to your bed the night before, the easier it is to get started the more likely they will follow through.

  • Choose your friends wisely because as the saying goes "show me your friend then I will tell you who you are". It's true that we tend to be like the people we spend time with, so limit your contact with people who will influence you negatively, who will encourage habit that you are trying to break. But seek out those who can we enforce good habits. Proverbs 13 verse 20 -
    the one associating with the wise will become wise but the one who have dealing with the stupid ones will fare badly.
  • Lastly for today make it harder to do the wrong thing. for instance if you want to eliminate junk food from your diet. Don't keep food that you know is not good for you in your kitchen by doing this when you are attempted eat junk giving in will require more effort than not giving it.
