Today, I completed my training on freelancing. The writing freelance masterclass was theme “writing to riches” as it was organised for people to earn while also enjoying writing Freelancing can simpy means being self-employed. Working for oneself without being committed to anyone is what freelancing is all about.

This class took place in a whatsapp closed group with occupants of nearly 30. Individuals in the class paid a N4000 Nigerian currency which is close to 15 steem. The first class was all about the tutors experience so far and he uses both text and voice notes for the lectures. His experiences encompasses so much lessons that we were all convinced that day that he was going to do a good job mentoring us.
He started by taking us through the various niche of writing available. Ranging from rewriting, editing, blog post writing, we were taking through a lot more. He also made sure he gave us assignment to submit before the next class. He made sure he reviews the assignment of everyone who submitted before deadline. He doesn't bother to check the ones of the people who submit late for the sake of disciplining them about keeping up to the clients deadline.

It is a skill to make sure a page ranks high on the search engine results pages (SERPs) . some search engines including Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. This search engine optimization is the most difficult and interesting part of the class. It took us two classes to learn about it.. The tutor took us through and all I have learnt includes:

Copywriting

This is all about how to write a copy to persuade customers to take an immediate action. It is very technical and practical as one needs to know about human psychology, what they want and what audience to sell to. It is very interesting and there are a lot of successful copywriters out there who write copies for big businesses and earn thousands of dollars. There were various method and techniques used by copywriters where one of them is the AIDA method which was taught by the coach. It is a step-by-step guide to write a long copy for an advertisement

He said one can source for jobs by creating a solid writing profile. He said one’s profile must show that the person is a writer so that a hot traffic can be created and family and friends can easily refer us for some writing gigs. He also mentioned joining facebook groups for freelancers. It might be competitive but one can get a good long time writing gigs citing this with his various experiences. The facebook job session and searching for gigs using some freelancing hashtags are some of the many other various ways he had mentioned.

Nairaland

He mentioned that we must all know about the nairaland platforms as Nigerian. This is a very large platform like quora where several people interacts. He mentioned that we can search different keywords that suggests hiring writers. He said we are going to see several writing gigs available. He also mentioned that, he got his first freelance money on this platform and that is where he literally started from.

Telegram

He mentioned that there are different freelancing groups on telegram and they can be searched up using the freelancing keyworks.

Instagram.

All that works for facebook works best for instagram. He said to just search hashtags, get the handles using them and send them mails

Linkedin

he mentioned linkedin as the oil well of freelancing now as it is where the rich clients are. he said it requires some special knowlege to know how it works and the secrets of utilizing it.
