Steem Economic Contest - 2nd Edition - Buying groceries and household essentials | 04/10/2022
Hi there,
Buying groceries and household essentials are one of the main activities in the home. Isn't it? We can't grow or make everything in the house. Now there are supermarkets, food cities, shops, fairs, etc. So, what's your favorite place to buy groceries? How many times a week do you go there?
So, here's my experience from Sri Lanka, for the contest Steem Economic Contest - 2nd Edition - What do you buy today ? by @harferri.
City Market: ///icicles.wanes.anvil
So, today I went with my mom to the city fair to buy basic food items and essentials.
What do you consider when going to buy stuff?
- Well mainly the items should be affordable (the economy is hard these days), but yet in good quality.
- Should able to buy almost all the needs from one place.
- Availability of fresh vegetables, fruits, fish, etc.
So, always our choice is the city fair. It's held once a week in Tuesday in my town, Buttala. Recently, the place has been constructed properly with a good car park, near the main road, with permanent roofing and concreted bases. There's a good space too. We can choose whatever we want very easily. It's just 3.5km away from my home.
The place is filled with people. When I'm home I can take her with the bike. I also loved to see those variety of items and help to buy them. As we have a small shop in the home, we have to buy some items in large quantities.
Mother is choosing dry turmeric
Sellers and buyers come from all around the city. Actually this is a great opportunity for the farmenrs to sell their harvest. I have seen the hardwork of them despite all the problems. So, they can sell on their prices to the customers, without second party buyers.
We quickly buy our essentials. Mother is an expert in choosing the quality vegetables and she knows what to buy exactly. We bought Vegetable, fruits, fish and dry fish, spices, betel and betel nuts etc. As you can see above mother buys turmeric pieces, and then prepares powder at home. It's cheap and we can make sure pure qualit. She does the same for chilli, cofee, black pepper, and spices. I'll share the procedure with you soon.
So, let's see what we bought and their prices.

The prices are a little bit high these days with the inflation in the country. But anyhow we need to survive. Isn't it? So, we bought vegetables(potato, tomato, onions, carrot, cabbage, beans, pumpkin, okra, brinjals, cucumber, chili, etc.), fruits (banana, watermelon), fish and dry fish, betel, betel nut, and tobacco to the shop and some spices enough for a week.
It cost around 30 dollars (137.16 steem) for all. After about 1.5 hours we left the place full of bags.
I invite, @prasadi, @sandu & @senehasa to the contest. Hope you would enjoy the post. Until the next time!

Hey, Thank you @mato445!!
Thank you brother @damithudaya for participating in the Contest : Steem Economic - 2nd Edition: What do you do buy today?
Traditional markets in Sri Lanka sell a wide variety of vegetables and spices including salted fish - awesome, very much like traditional markets in Indonesia.
