The Banana Boys is what our local Sharks Rugby team used to be called, as we live in the Banana Province known as Kwazulu Natal.

I'm sure by now you know that I've gone totally Bananas today;)

This fruit grow prolifically on the lower South Coast and one sees plantation after plantation on the drive down to the South Coast, which is very often as we just love that region and getting close to the sea!

One of my favourite sandwiches is a Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich, really scrumptious and gives me the oomph to keep me going on a busy day!

We're in the midst of a REALLY hot and humid summer and another new favourite is-

A cool BanaNut Smoothie Bowl

What a delicious way to start my day; full of the goodness of:

  • Frozen Bananas
  • Frozen Pink Grapes
  • Sugar free Peanut Butter
  • Walnuts
  • Flax Seeds
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk

Blend all together till smooth and serve with Granola and fruit.

FUN FACTS ABOUT BANANAS
Did you know that Banana is the only tri-segmented fruit in the world?
Simply peel the Banana, push your finger into the top and it magically parts into three segments.

Bees going bananas - never take Bananas on a picnic especially if there are bees around;)
The reason is that just after a Bee has stung someone, it gives off a hormone that smells similar to Bananas and the rest of the swarm can go into attack mode!

This lone bee enjoying my ginger beer recently was soon joined by his friends so it was goodbye to my ginger beer ;)

In 2004, researchers found that children who consumed bananas appeared to have a lower risk of developing leukemia. It may be due to the protein Lectin as well as the Vitamin C content, both having antioxidant properties.

Bananas contain fiber, potassium, folate and antioxidants such as vitamin C which all support heart health and improve Cholesterol.

Bananas are good for the digestive system as it contains both water and fiber.

Interestingly they are part of the BRAT diet which some doctors recommend for treating diarrhea as it replaces the nutrients lost. BRAT stands for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.

I adore bananas and peanut butter together! Well, pretty much peanut butter on anything. ;) This smoothie bowl looks like pure heaven to me. I still have yet to make a bowl like this because I usually get too impatient and just drink the smoothie as is, but maybe once the warm weather hits here I'll finally give it a go!

It was delicious indeed, perfect for summertime! We're having an exceptionally hot summer here! Hubby even loves eating peanut butter by the spoonful;);)
