Contest : Geographic Macrophotography (show your macrophotography skill.
Hello, Steem Geographers, how are you all?
I'm happy to be here and to participate here in a contest for the first time. In participating in this contest, I'll be exhibiting some members of my local community, living and non-living alike. I'll be talking about water, fungi, and insects.
That said, welcome to my contest entry, hope you find it interesting.
Choba River
The first time I saw this flowing water locally called Choba river, located in Rivers state, was during my first degree internship program when my group was designated to go to the location of this river. When I saw the contest I decided to go back there to get a macro photography image of the river.
Because of people's beliefs, after I finish taking the pictures, a group of youths approached me, thinking that I was there for fetish reasons but after my explanations, I was able to convince them otherwise and they let me go.
I later learned after the confrontation I had with the youths that people do sacrifices in the river and pay those youths whose duty is to guard the river to allow them to go after the sacrifice is done.
Flower
Flowers like crown-of-thorns
Jungle geranium
yellow alder
These flowers, can be planted in our gardens or front yard to beautify our homes and make our home cozy.
They helps to regulate the environment especially areas with fewer trees. Though the flowers are not planted in my house but planted in an event hall close to my house, I could not help but love the beauty it gives.
Armyworm
Armyworm, also called Akalombo or nutgrass armyworm is a beautiful work of God's creation with its colorful skin and is among the class - Insecta, which I found in a garden farm on my way home from the river.
Insects
Aphids
I decided to look for more macro photos to make up my work and so I left my compound to a farmland closeby where I found these beautiful insects; Aphids, small sap-sucking insects, and members of the superfamily Aphidoidea.
Entomophthora Muscae, a species of pathogenic fungus in the order
Entomophthorales which causes a fatal disease in flies.
Entomophthora Muscae
It can cause epizootic outbreaks of disease in houseflies and has been investigated as a potential biological control agent
Phyllovates Chlorophaea, with the common name Texas unicorn mantis, is a species of praying mantis.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the river has benefited a lot of people in my locality, for instance, people go there for fun and outdoor activities like swimming, cast netting, etc.
The flower beautifies our surroundings and creates this aura of comfort.
The insects, armyworm are significant to our biological ecosystem.
I want to specially thank you
