The river I live by. My photos and a couple of cute facts about the beautiful Neva River

The Neva River's banks host the second biggest Russia's city, St. Petersburg and this is where I am... The house on the map, this is where I am typing that story, right in the island between the river arms...

The river is short (74 km) but powerful. In terms of water volume, the Neva is the fifth in Europe after the Volga, the Danube, the Pechora, and the Northern Dvina.

That is not a surprise since the Neva takes its source from the largest European lake, the Ladoga (right on the map).

The river can be as rough as seawaters when strong Western winds blow. 300-year-old Peter and Paul Fortress.

Thus, the Neva River resembles a strait that connects a huge body of water, the Ladoga, and the Gulf of Finland (a part of the Baltic Sea). For comparison, the Neva is just twice longer than the Bosphorus (31 km), a narrow strait between the Black Sea and the Sea of Marmara.

I like the Neva... This is a beautiful river and it makes St. Petersburg a special city. The city is divided by a vast water space with long vintage bridges that raise their bascules at night to let large ships go between the sea gulf and the lake. The Neva splits into river arms at its lower part and forms plenty of islands. One of them is where I am finishing this story in the middle of night...
