Fairy Tale feat. Cubic Honey -- Part 25

In the Mutant Defense Force Game, CubicHoney0146's Squad failed against the Level 10 Boss Wave what seemed like countless times. They were able to clean up the wave of underlings with relative ease, but the colossal mutant with the two giant maces proved to be too much for them to handle again and again. He moved fast for his size, and one swing of his weapon was enough to kill.

All of his squad mates were dead, and Cubic Honey ran the perimeter of the map, trying to stay ahead of the Boss. Shattered glass littered the streets.

He found Sniper's tag halfway across the map from the fabricator. In order to stay alive, he had to take the long way around back to base. When Sniper finally respawned, he looked Cubic Honey dead in his weary eyes and said, "Draw him into the courtyard. I'll do the rest."

And in the next instant the Boss was upon them. Cubic Honey drew his attention with a shotgun blast to the chest and led him away from the base, as Sniper climbed the stairs to his perch.

Cubic Honey was hungry beyond belief, and when he wasn't charged with the demands of survival in the face of imminent doom, he wavered with weakness. There was no time for that now, and he ran at a sprint. He dipped around the corner into the courtyard. Dormant plants sat beneath a thin film of snow on the raised beds lining the circular inlet. A fountain towered over the center of the courtyard, a lithe angelic figure with partly outspread wings and a longsword extending from its right arm.

Cubic Honey ran clockwise around the fountain, daring a brief glance up to the window where Sniper knelt with his rifle trained down on the scene below.

Cubic stopped on the far side of the fountain and turned to face down the Boss. As the Boss lifted back a mace to swipe, Cubic Honey opened his beak and roared. The grizzly sound stunned the Boss for an instant, and in that instant, Sniper found an opportunity. His bullet penetrated the Boss's left eye, killing him instantly.

Cubic Honey had to roll to escape the collapsing form of the Boss. When he came to his feet, he roared again, a passionate release of pain and emotion.

The world dissolved around him.
