My username is @kingporos, it is derived from an ancient King of India. King Poros/Porus of Paurava.
The story begins in 326BC. Alexander is the most successful military Commander whole ever seen! He took his throne from his father King Philip II at the age of 20. And by the age of 30, he built one of the largest empires stretching from Greece to northeast India. He was undefeated in any battle, according to Greek historians.
After winning Bactria (Persia now Iran) the Macedonians crossed the Hindu Kush with a considerable force of Greek and Asian men. After entering the Indian subcontinent met with King Ambhi of Taxila (now in Pakistan). King Ambhi was no match for the Macedonian army, he surrendered with other Kings from smaller kingdoms.
The Macedonian King was finally halted by the Kingdom of Pauravas. The Paurava Kingdom spanned the region between the Hydaspes (Jhelum River) and Acesines (Chenab River), in the Punjab region of the Indian subcontinent.
Greek force with the Taxiles army now faced the fiercest foe they have ever encountered, King Poros of Paurava. Between them, there was an epic battle called "Battle of Hydaspes".
King Poros's infantry was small in comparison to the Macedonian force. But they have one advantage. War Elephants.
For the first time in their life, Greeks saw War Elephants. They battled for days. Elephants crushing the Greek force. Large casualties on both sides. King Poros lost two of his Sons and other relatives in the Battle!
After days of battle, King Poros finally surrendered to Alexander. When they both meet each other, Alexander asked King Poros how he wanted to be treated, to which Poros replied: "The way one king treats another".
After the encounter with Pauravas, Alexander's dream of conquering India was not fulfilled.
When I was little, I read about Alexander the Great. I knew that something is missing. Why Alexander suddenly stopped? I dug a little bit deeper into the history. I found about King Poros! I was very fascinated by his courage. So I started to use king Poros as my handle name. Slowly it became my internet identity.
