The Diary Game (19-08-2024) || Participation in Human Chain of Bangladesh Betar Workers Demanding Elimination of Discrimination.

Assalamu Alaikum everyone. Today is totally different than other days. Because today is a special day in my working life. This special reason is that the officials and employees of Bangladesh Betar will be human chained on the main road for the 6-point demand to end discrimination.

Today, Bangladesh Betar's officials-employees at all levels, its own artists and workers have called for a human chain to demand job promotion and elimination of various discriminations. I have never joined such a movement though. But since there is a benefit issue for thousands of underprivileged employees, so I will also join this human chain.

So today at 10.30 am, the convenors of this human bond committee asked us all the employees to gather in the office courtyard of Bangladesh Betar.

For this, everyone suspended all their official work and came down to make the human bond a success. Along with them I also locked my office room and went down to the office courtyard where everyone had gathered.

Then from there we were directed to another building of the office which was named as Betar Center. It is a very old building where Bangladesh Betar broadcasts its main programs and also has an auditorium. The main purpose of going there was to distribute banners and placards and festoons to everyone. Because our main human bond will start from 11 am.

After that, all our officers and employees, artists and workers from the National Radio Center came down to the main road with banners and placards in their hands. On these banners and placards, we have presented our own demands. Our main objective is to air our demands seriously in the national media and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Public Administration have taken note of our demands with great satisfaction.

At the right time, all the staff of our office including me stood in line in front of Bangladesh Betar to implement the human chain program. Come down the streets today to remove this longstanding discrimination.

Our main 6 demands are –

• Ending the promotion deprivation of workers.
• Ensuring merit based promotion to the post of Deputy Secretary including batch wise promotion.
• Implementation of unified BCS (Information) cadre.
• Appointing own Director General from Bangladesh Betar.
• Revision of proposed recruitment rules for non-cadre officers and employees.
• To take measures for permanency and promotion of the posts of Bangladesh Betars own artists.

Then with a placard I stood with my colleagues. On my placard it was written "Two policies in one country do not accept discriminatory recruitment rules" then after a while I saw many journalists from various media channels of Bangladesh came to cover our news. Those who lead this human chain of ours presented our demands to the journalists and humbly requested the Adviser of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to accept our demands by addressing the inequalities in Bangladesh's radio.

Currently my office is not only Bangladesh Betar but they are presenting their respective demands to different government offices of the country which they could not do during the previous government.

In fact, these demands have been tolerated only by the government employees who have been deprived of benefits for so long. But today, since the political context of Bangladesh has changed, the employees of various government offices could not demand what they have been demanding for a long time. Today they have all come down to the streets like us.

This human bond has been going on for quite some time. And we have been able to present our demands well in front of the national media. We can deliver all our news at the national level only through the mass media workers. Many are presenting their demands to the public with the help of slogans.

In fact, Bangladesh Betara, known as the only official media of Bangladesh, has been working with anti-discrimination attitude in various ways since its birth. But today the workers of Bangladesh Betar are suffering from discrimination and I am hopeful that the interim government will accept our demands and play a role in creating a beautiful working environment.
