Imagine You Are A Farmer.

Introduction

Farmers are nation builders, farmers are the wheels and steering of all nations. Tell me, if you are an engineer, medical doctor, a lawyer, a journalist and what have you. If you don't have food to eat, will you blame yourself for not farming? If there's no food supply in your country, will you blame the leaders?

Do you think farmers are less humans because they provide you with fresh food, vegetables and fruit? How much do you know about farmers and farming? Stay tuned as I take you through.

Tell us about the farmers in your country? Tell about their economic status? How do the people of other professions of your country see the farmers?

My country is Nigeria. Before today, let say from around 1960 to about 2019, Nigeria really made a wave in oil and gas production. Crude oil was a booming article in the country that's why, abandoning farming which was originally the country's main occupation.

Today, ever since the oil market has failed, most people who abandoned their vast land have returned to food production. Besides, due to food shortages and the immediate hike in the cost of food items, everyone has returned to farming.

Before now, farmers were usually not given much credence, they were treated as mere paupers and poor people. But that's no more. Everyone has a great respect for farmers because they have suddenly realised the effects of lack of food. They have realised that the only way out of food scarcity is to fall back into farming.

Today, an average Nigerian is a farmer. They have embraced all methods of farming but local and hybrid systems. Even people in other professions have no choice but to join the farmers in cultivating crops.

Just like the usual saying, "if you can't beat them, join them."

Are the farmers neglected in your country ? Are they getting their fair rights from the society or the state of your country ?

Like I've mentioned, farmers were sidelined in my country for some years, but that's no more. Today, even the government, from the federal to the local government, supports farmers by giving them loans/grants to purchase more land and invest more in crop production and cultivation. Seeds and other farm implements are being distributed to farmers as well.

Recently, the governor of my state, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, announced that all civil servants should go into farming. He gave them some days off from work so that they could use the days for farming.

Recently, in Nigeria, the wife of the president also encouraged women to go into farming. She even encouraged farming at home, using gardens and spaces in the home to farm.

What kind of steps can be taken to get back the fair rights of the farmers of your country?

For the farmers to gain further recognition, the government should give support to the farmers. The farmers should be given loans/grants, and there should be provision of good roads to the production areas. The government should also provide storage facilities for the storage of edible foods and then provide them with work implements such as tractors and machines to enable quick production.
Finally, farmers in my country should be provided with security because of the insurgence and killings in the northern part of the country where most crops are produced.

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

Farming is now embraced in our country my sister. Unlike some years back when people regarded farmers as commoners.

Nowadays even the rich drives their car to their farm, park the car and enter the farm to cultivate, especially now that cost of living in Nigeria is high. Almost everybody is now a farmer.
All the best dear.
