Awake
Jeremy had struggled since childhood with chronic sleepwalking problems. One day he disappeared from his bed, no one knew how, not even himself, and came to his senses inside an old theatre, conducting an imaginary concert.
Since that day, he has simply discovered that he has been waking up in places that challenge his creativity, a dream that his own self would be too afraid to consciously face.
His agoraphobia led him to unsuspected limits, which he only jumped over in his sleep. He built a niche in his dreams where he attended music classes without being confined to a giant space with so many people. Somehow his brain had devised a strategy to subtract the necessary knowledge from the dream to reality.
He had an unparalleled talent for composition, for creating harmony and a sense of unity, where the whole makes individuality irrelevant, but the problem was that he was learning virtually a natural but individual connection.
"What makes a necklace, is not the pearls but the thread," he repeated as he came out of the trance. It seemed to be a quid pro quo, a kind of phrase he had to assimilate in order to move forward.
His innate ability was a clear reflection that all human beings are capable of making and understanding music because the notes develop in sequence and we can predict them, because the brain seeks to manage expectations, but whoever creates the music has to move, to break the expectations.
However, how would you become a dream maker, if you only acted on dreams? His fears reduced his opportunities. Who would be excited if it wasn't empty benches because he only conducted the orchestra when he was asleep and dreaming of being the famous conductor he never would be, as long as he didn't face the fact that he had to deal with his phobia.
He had innate talent and conditions, dreams, desire and learning with a great teacher, he just had to overcome his fear. And, he began to love and find again the sleepwalking child who was lost in a dream. His therapist introduced him to the world of concerts by covering his eyes, so that he would not see the abyss and the abyss would not see him. And so, blindfolded, he was able to achieve his dream of conducting an orchestra while awake.
