This is my lame attempt at my Sunday Freewrite at 2:40am Monday morning. When I was in high school in 1977, I was playing volleyball before class out by the armory. I had a misstep and twisted my ankle just as the morning class bell rang. I hobbled to my first class and my foot was throbbing. My classmates were making fun of me and kicking my hurt foot. That went on in all my classes that day, but when it was time to walk home I couldn't make it down the steps. Of course that was before cell phones so I had my buddy Carl call my dad and ask him to come pick me up, my mamma didn't drive. He arrived a short time later, as we only lived a block away, got me in the car and took me home. My mamma was hysterical so she jumped in the car and they took me to Brook Army Medical Center. They took x-rays and I had broken my tibia, wrapped a cast up to my knee, gave me crutches, and sent me on my way. I was lame for six weeks and never did get the hang of using crutches. I went back to work after I didn't need the crutches anymore, and just stayed at my cash register and checked out customers all day long on the weekends. My happiest day that year was when they took the cast off, I could finally scratch this fucking itch that had been bugging me for three weeks. I was going to save the cast for Halloween, but it smelled so bad I shit canned it after a week.

Hahaha, I pushed a wire down inside the cast to scratch my itch Bruni.
2 years in plaster 1981 and 82. I even got so good on crutches that I could do hand stands on them Lol.
Every six weeks I had to go in for a new cast and it was a very tedious experience.
By the time the plaster finally came off, my leg was a thick as my arm Lol.

That is quite a story, @wonderwop! To me the second best day must have been the one where you showed up in a cast after those brats were kicking your foot!

Unable to scratch an itch, that must be... uh, very annoying. If it were me I might have attempted to hit that cast in a futile attempt to ease it.... lol.
