Hello dear steemians, It's @prasadi from Sri Lanka. I am so grateful about this wonderful opportunity which gave me a chance to dive in to one of my favorite world's. It's strong boy Hari's story. It's his family story. The miserable life story of the poor people of Thul, a rural Indian village where the fishing industry made a living. It's the story that showed me most beautiful hearts in the world like Mr. Panwellha's. What do you think about the number of times I read the book??
three times?? Five times?? NOO..It's More than 10 times!!! Then what's the book??

Village by the sea by Anita Desai

Hari is twelve year old boy in a small fishing village called Thul in India and he has elder sister called Lila and two younger sisters Bela and Kamal. Their mother is sick, who can't even get down from her bed and drunkard father pays no more attention toward his family.Lila and Hari had to stop schooling due to the poverty and keep struggling to feed their family.

One day Hari got tired and totally upset their poor life and goes to Bomaby a big city in India to find work without even informing his sisters. There he had to fight hard to survive and earn money. He got a job in a shop, not paid much but the poor shop owner Jagu helped hari with all his heart. Mr: Panwellah the old wise watch mender he meets there teaches Hari about watch mending as well as life, with a true love for Hari. Leela fights to take care of their sick mother and younger sisters alone. Finally the story become to a happy ending as I wish. Hari came to the village with some money and their drunkard father no longer a drunkard father. Their sick mother gets well with the help of their rich neighbor who comes to Thul rarely. Their family got to gather again!!

This is a long story with an inspired beauty and I just summarized that long story.

What touched my heart most

  • Excellent and beautiful touches on nature

The morning light was still soft as it filtered through the web of palm leaves, and swirls of blue
woodsmoke rose from fires in hidden huts and mingled with it. Dew still lay on the rough grass and made
the spiderwebs glitter. These webs were small and thickly matted and stretched across the grass,

I can't find words for Anita Desai's creativity and high sensitivity for nature. She always connect nature with the story. It's excellent. I feel wonder of nature, whenever I read the story.

  • Deep messages given through the characters

Once you start mending watches on your own, you can collect the payment, it will be yours, not mine. Does that sound
good? Eh? Then you can go back and set up as the village watchmender.’

Mr: Panwellah is a great character I met in the story and this is how he helped and loved poor Hari, who is not even a relative of him. Mr Panwellah whose face always has a huge smile taught Hari to enjoy everything in his life. Mr Panwellah celebrate every festival he meets without considering the race or the religion. It's a great message to the world.

The story reveals the dark abyss of poverty. It talks of the tears of poor Thul people. Highly advise to protect the nature in various direct and indirect ways. The story gives a great place for the real humanity and the strength of the family.

The writer

If I forget the great writer who wrote this, It's completely wrong. She is Anita Desai, an Indian novelist and short
story writer. She is a brilliant writer and she has been shortlisted for the booker prize three times. She won so many awards in her writing life which proved her excellency.

Finally what I need to say is I love Village by the sea and this heart touching, loving and excellent story will be remained in my heart as a beautiful dream that I enjoy forever. 💕

dear @fendit and @belenguerra and @writingreviews accept my love for organizing such a nice contest.
Greetings!!
