A TRACE OF HOPE | poem
People talking about the economy
Prophesying about the state of our country
Shaking their hands with ignominy,
Demanding a remedy
For the country's calamities.
Robbers armed
Under the influence of dope
Killing senselessly, blasting hopes
Relieving the rich and the poor
Of their lives and property.
All around me,
Christians talking about the 'end time army'
Binding and casting
The 'spirit' of the bondwoman:
Decreeing many decrees
Invoking the aid
Of heaven.
Darkness like a shroud settles
Over my land
Hunger stalks the streets,
And ignorance keeps us sedated.
Lone voices cry out,
Muslims pray, Christians pray
Even the atheists pray
A stoic resolve
Even when all hopes
Seem gone.
