Jack and Su are a young couple living in New York who love their modern lives and the tech devices that they have at their fingetips (as the majority of those who are reading this no doubt do too!).
They're mobiles are constantly in their hands, connected to the internet, where they are able to keep updated with what's happening in the world.
They enjoy listening to music through their Amazon Alexa and Su is particularly fond of her laptop which she gets almost territorial about when she discovers that Jack has mistakenly deleted all of her open tabs whilst using it.
Whilst attending a party, they bump into Jack's friend Raph who tells them of his free life of travelling and not being held down by anything.
He suggests they make use of his Grandfather's upstate rural cabin and enjoy getting away from it all on a trip to reconnect with one another and be offline for a whole week.
Excited about their trip, they each speak to their bosses about taking some time off from work, however Su quickly gets a response back from her boss telling her that she is fired for daring to suggest such a crazy thing.
She's disappointed but also thinks that it could actually be a good thing to free her spirit from being tied down.

They travel out of the city and into the rural countryside where the air is clean, their surroundings are lush with green forests and all is peaceful.
Whilst out on a hike, they hear gunshots in the distance but think that it's probably just hunting season.
That evening they sit outside by their makeshift bonfire and enjoy chatting about life and watching the shooting stars above.
Su tells Jack that it's probably not a good idea to drink anymore wine as he usually has sleep visions when he's drank too much alcohol, but he decides to have one more glass regardless.
As predicted, whilst they are asleep in bed, Jack abruptly bolts upright and starts screaming at the corner of the room, convinced that he can see something, shouting at it to get out.
Su sleepily tries to calm him by telling him he's just having a sleep vision.
Next day, they return from a canoe trip and Jack notices what they think is a fluffy pouffe in the lounge, but can't recall seeing it before.
As he goes outside to chop wood, the pouffe is no longer there.
Su sneakily turns her mobile phone on whilst Jack is occupied. She listens to multiple voicemails from her Mum which sound like a chaotic event is taking place in the city. She says something about rats taking over the city and ethanol.
Back in the cabin, Jack sees a 'critter' flying passed the window and they wonder what it was.
They talk about maybe moving out of New York, buying a plot of land, building a house and running their own restaurant.
The morning after, Jack is outraged to see that his sourdough starter has vanished from it's jar and thinks that a raccoon may have eaten it somehow. Su also notices that the whisky bottle that they were drinking from last night is also empty despite the fact that she knows they did not drink it all. Confused, they put the glass containers side by side and see that both of them have very small holes in.

They then realise that the pouffe has reappeared in the cabin. Su says she doesn't think that it is just a pouffe and Jack tentatively approaches it with a set of fire tongues with the intention of prodding it.
But before he does, it moves slightly and then launches a long tentacle like vein which sticks to the wall and enables it to shoot out of the door and away from the cabin.
As Su runs around the cabin securing all the windows and doors, she confesses to Jack that she had turned her phone on and that she had received voicemails from her Mum.
They both decide to turn their phones back on. Su has received more voicemails and texts from her Mum and friends whilst Jack has not received any.
The pouffes are in fact aliens which are causing havoc and killing people, they are attracted to ethanol, the city has been evacuated and the Yankee Stadium has been destroyed.
Raph has also left a voicemail to say that he intends on going to the cabin to ride it out and that, should they need it, his Grandfather's gun is in the basement.
Jack and Su decide to flee the cabin to try and meet his parents who have said that they are onboard their boat and can collect them from a nearby port. But when they get to their car they find that the aliens have also drank their petrol and the tank is empty.
They go back into the cabin and bag all their belongings up and place them by the door should they need to leave fast.
Jack finds some bottles of wine which he says they can use as distraction bombs for the aliens.

The following morning they wake up to one of the aliens in the lounge. They run out of the cabin and into the barn where they find a diesel car and keys. Su runs back to the cabin to retrieve their bags but the aliens have started to descend on the cabin, overwhelming them.
They get back to the car and drive away. Not long after they are on the road they come across a truck at the side of the road and see a couple being killed by the aliens.
They use the wine as a distraction by throwing it away from them to smash it.
The alien dashes away from them but not before farting a vile and potent gas near them.
Driving passed they hear the sound of a babies cry.
They discuss whether to ignore it or investigate and decide that they should do the latter.
They approach the truck and discover a baby boy in the back seat. As they are busy trying to get the baby out of the car seat, a woman springs from the back of the truck and steals their car.
They take the baby, along with a baby carrier and bag and venture into the forest.
Su finds the baby's birth certificate in the bag which states that his name is Jack.
Soon after, they start to hallucinate from the aliens gas that they smelt and they then pass out. By the time they come to, Baby Jack is no where to be seen.
After a frantic search they find him sitting in the grass, unharmed but nearby an alien. Jack dives for the wine bottle and Su grabs the knife. The alien launches its tentacle vein at Jack and it hits his chest. Su cuts at it with her knife and manages to get it off of Jack.
The vein was not able to harm him as his mobile was in his chest pocket and therefore saved his life.
The alien disintegrates into the ground. Whilst walking away they see a strange structure in the middle of the trees.
It looks like a large shard of transparent glass or ice. They go to investigate but discover that they cannot touch it.
As they are distracted by their phones they do not realise that the structure has morphed itself around them and suddenly they are enclosed within a domed transparent pod.
The pod floats up into the sky and they struggle to breathe. A stream of oxygen then flows into the pod.
They float up above the clouds and into the stratosphere where they see that other pods are also leaving the earth.
Jack asks if they are saved? They giggle with relief but then they stop smiling and their expressions remain still. The End.

I quite enjoyed this movie, well I must have done as I ended up watching it twice.
Alien invasion movies usually depict the uninvited guests as terrifying ugly beasts of doom but in this one they were relatively small balls of fluff which flew around and farted stinky hallucinogenic gas.
The storyline was good and the acting was great. They definitely delivered a lot of funny moments although I wouldn't class it as a big belly laugh kind of movie.
The ending was disappointing. I don't tend to like open ended ones as there is just too much mystery about them.
If I'm going to spend and hour and a half watching a movie I kinda want it to have some sort of closure to it. There was just too many unanswered questions for my liking.
Did they die? Will they die? Where is their destination? For what purpose were they taken?
I get that endings like this tease the future events so that each viewer can decide for themselves how it should or did end, but for me I always see open endings as a further opportunity that the writers didn't explore.
However my overall thoughts of this movie is that I did enjoy it, but for me the ending could have been a whole lot better.
Movie Monkey Rating: 4
