Work is the essential part of our daily lives, everyone works for several reasons; To provide for the family, for pleasure, to learn and acquire new skills, to be more independent etc.
Whatever the reason, work is very important in our lives.

My work

For my part, I'm currently working to acquire a skill in dressmaking.

Dressmaking is an art that specializes on making ladies wears. I'm learning how to make all types of ladies wears ranging from gowns, suits, blouses, trousers, etc for ladies

At my workplace, we have one teacher, and 12 students also learning with me.
The activities that take place there includes training and making clothes for clients.

The name of my workplace is Shulyndresshive which is the name adopted by the owner what she started running the place. It is located at no. Oron road Uyo, Nigeria.

What are your daily tasks at your place of work or your daily activities?

My daily tasks

Our workplace is opened from Mondays to Fridays. Going there each day is to watch and learn and as well make my own dresses.

We are also assigned some work on clients dresses to help with the making.
Sometimes I get the task of going to buy the materials for sewing.

Making dresses for clients is always a teamwork, sometimes we are assigned each one a particular dress to complete and each one must complete his own on time.

Completing each dress makes us really proud and we have something new to learn.

What is the biggest obstacle you have ever experienced while doing this activity?

Obstacles

There are always obstacles when it comes to learning but with efforts we can overcome them.
For me I've faced little obstacles since I have my teacher with me who is always attentive to help us where we need it.
Most times there are little issues with the sewing machine and it can be disappointing when it happens when you urgently need to complete a dress.

Other challenges includes getting enough money to buy materials since sewing materials are quite expensive. I think that if I have enough money then I can buy all the materials I need and thus be able to practice making new clothes everyday and that will enhance my learning.

What is your greatest hope in the future related to your activities?

My wish and hope for the future

I hope that I can complete my learning soon and be able to put my new skills to good use.
I want to become a professional dressmaker and be able to create new styles for different clients.

I'm happy that I'm currently learning this skill and finding pleasure in it. It's going to take me effort to learn but I'm sure going to achieve it and all effort will be worth it.
