Something it’s not right - My Micro Adventure #2

in Steem-Travelers3 years ago

It was this September when I decided to join my boyfriend down in Wicklow town. He was there to visit his family and stay over for the weekend with a dear friend.
It was a Sunday trip for me. Touch and base. I was leaving early in the morning to be back late evening just in time to feed the cats. Also, I was tripping to try the new camera that I bought for my imminent work/travel in Sicily, a Fuji X100V. (I might be doing a separate post about the camera if you’re willing to).
Ready for all the weather conditions with a tiny backpack, I’m heading for my new micro-adventure.
On the bus, I was looking at this 3.7 Km loop on my app, AllTrials. The loop starts from a car park near a golf club, but I wondered if I could walk from the town, through the Black Castle, staying by the coastline and end up in the loop.
9.30 am, and I’m in town; boots on, tracking clothes, backpack, camera. I Looked like a real tourist. But to complete the first part of my adventure, I hit the Bridge tavern for some breakfast.

I love that place. They have this room with a big window and a view of the Vartry river that crosses the port with the fishing boats. Having my Irish Breakfast, I started a conversation with a guy and the waitress about beginning my trail from the Black Castle. All is sorted. Black Castle it is. I had for sure at least three to four hours before meeting with my partner and friends.

Empty boats with colourful boxes sitting there to have a day off.

A man was walking his dog.

People were swimming in the cold sea just down in the hidden Travelahawk beach. I always wanted to have a cold deep, and those people were indeed not new to that.

I find it always fascinating how the weather can change so quickly in Ireland. Grey clouds make everything so moody, but suddenly blue sky and spring-like gale bust the landscape.

Walking, the houses in my back were getting smaller and just behind a hill; everything was green. The strong wind shaped and bent the grass in one direction like it had been brushed with an invisible comb.
I followed the pathway keeping the golf club on my right and rugged rocks and the silver Irish Sea on my left.

From some points, I was able to see people playing golf, but suddenly I found myself crossing the edge of the golf club. The path was landing there, and If I was willing to keep going with my trail, I had to do so.

I found some friendly players, some others not at all as they screamed “Get out” even if I was walking on the edge of the field. It was only a few meters, but still, I was walking my way through the golf course. Why were people screaming? I didn’t look like someone who wanted to play; I was prone to my hiking and walking on the edge of the field.
“I don’t have any people playing golf”, I thought, so I grabbed some shots.

I crossed it a couple of times, and I found another hidden beach where some seals were resting and having a swim.

_DSF0275.jpg
From there, it was impossible to continue. The grass was too high, vegetation with sharps spikes and nettles everywhere. The path was disappearing there. My tracking trousers were too light and couldn’t protect me from the wild nature growing around me, so I had to give up.

On my way back, I grabbed some trash that I found around, and I wondered if there was a walk through the coast once.

Spending a few hours with the family and friends in Wicklow was a nice feeling.

Autumn was already in the air, and walking downhill, the evening was making its appearance. The day was gone, and at the vesper time, I headed home.

The first thing I did was googling where is Wicklow Town, and it looks like your boyfriend's family like in a perfect place - nature, coast, and yet not that far from the capital.

I do adore each of your photos as well as the whole story. I can imagine shooting photos of the golf club is more exciting than playing this sport. I never tried but it's somewhere at the end of the list of things I am willing to do :)

You surprised me with that seals. I may be ignorant, but I truly didn't know it is possible to see them in Ireland. We learn new things every day.

Thank you for sharing, I really enjoyed your story and I'm waiting for more :)

Wicklow town is a very nice very Irish place. Very happy that you liked my post. You're my biggest fan ever LOL
Seals are quite common in Ireland to spot :)

Wow🥰 Thanks for sharing this wonderful adventure of yours with the community. I would've stayed for long because I love golf so much. Tiger woods made me love the sports.

Very happy that you liked the post. Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to stay in the golf court as it's a private property :/

Beautiful images taken along the way, @mattiap.

Thank you very much @zorank 😊

In the beginning, I thought it was a compilation of photos from different days, you are absolutely right the weather changes suddenly!

Bueatiful photos, thank you for sharing!

Thanks for mentioning this, such a quick change in the environment would startled me, it would feel so unnatural for a first experience.
