Great to see a continuation of the theme being nature. Once again it will be a delight to share the Beauty of Nature around me. Right now and for the next four weeks I am on vacation in Mauritius. So, when I want to share the «Beauty of Nature around you», I will have to share the beauty of nature from this island. This small island has a varied landscape. The whole coastline has beaches, but the central part is mountanious. Hiking is popular, but because the summers are hot, it's better to do it during the winter months when the temperatures are more pleasant and the air less humid. Hiking is absolutely a wonderfull acktivity.

The photos above were taken a few days ago from a walk along a trail that runs through the sugarcane fields and an old sugar mill I passed on my way..I did this hike because I had hoped to explore the old sugar mill. Unfortunately it was surrounded by a fence. I did take a walk along the fence, but there were no open entrance. The only really visible part is the chimney. Trees are covering most of the what is left of the buildings. But I had a pleasant walk, all alone along the trail. In the baxkground you can see the mountains in the central part of the island.

These photos were taken on a hike to the top of the mountain called Le Pouce, which means «thumb» because the peak has a shape that looks like a thumb. It's the third highest mountain on the island. The hike to the top of this 812 meter high mountain is fairly easy. The trail is well signpostet and easy to follow. The view is amazing and the higher you get, you want to make many stops, simply to enjoy the view. The capital, Port Louis is located right beneath the mountain. If the weather is clear, you can almost see all of the island. It was not the case when I was here, but I still think the view was spectacular.

Last week we did a road trip to the southern part of the island, to an area called Chamarel. What might be the most unique experience here is probably the rather special landscape which has been named Chamarel 7 Colored Earth. The appearance of these «waves» in colored stripes has been formed and given its appearance and shape due to erosion of the volcanic rock. It was this activity that has created the island once millions of years ago. Chamarel has even more to offer in terms of mountains, lush vegetation and lots of waterfalls. It is one of my favorite areas, because here it is nature that dominates. The area is less populated and thus you get a better sense of being close to nature.

Nature on the island of Mauritius also includes the sea, sand, coral reef, palm trees etc. After all, it's a tropical island surrounded by sea. The beach on the photo is Flic en Flac. I hope I have managed to give you an idea of the natural beauty of Mauritius.
