The Tsar Bell
The bell tower of Ivan the Great. It is located in the Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin. By the way, there is also a Cathedral Square in my small town.
The architectural ensemble of the bell tower consists of three objects: the pillar of the bell tower "Ivan the Great", the Assumption belfry, and the Filaret extension.
Built in 1505-1509 by the Italian architect Bon Fryazin, it was repeatedly completed, expanded, and rebuilt before 1815.
And the history of this ensemble began in 1329, when, by order of the Moscow Prince Ivan Kalita, a church was built on Borovitsky Hill, named after the Byzantine theologian of the VI-VII centuries, John of the Ladder — the namesake of the holy prince.
If you look at the base of the church, you can see a large bell. This is the Tsar Bell.
The bell that never rang. In 1737, a fire broke out on Cathedral Square, as a result of which the Tsar Bell was damaged. A piece weighing 11 tons broke off from it.
