You need a matching graphic for your thumbnail picture, one that attracts attention to your post, providing some kind of visual support for the main idea conveyed by the post.

Graphics that helps in your explanation is also needed, as some abstract ideas can only be best explained using graphics. Thought the graphics for a post can be sourced, You can't be satisfied with the graphics you source because they were not tailored for you. Custom made graphics convey your exact thought with greater precision.

The first place that comes to mind is Pixabay this is a place where you can get royalty/copyright free images to be used on your steemit post.

Once in the Pixabay environment, use the search bar to enter a key word or phrase for the type of picture you need, you may have to respond to a CAPTCHA then Download the image.
In some cases the image you get can not independently corroborate your story and will require some editing.
And if one application dose not have all the tools needed to express your idea, then you can use more applications. Just remember to give credit to your source.

When the background is not needed

You may have the picture you are looking for but the background has ruined the shot and has to be surgically removed or replaced. The surgical blade you need at this point is an online tool called remove-bg.

• The picture with the background that ought to remove could be a picture from Pixabay or one you captured by yourself.
• Simply get to https://www.remove.bg/
• select the Upload Image button which this takes you to your picture gallery.
• select the picture who's background is to be removed.
• This will load in the picture and then the background will be removed!
  
• You will be expected to download the resulting image back to your phone.

Adding more graphic elements

In most cases you may have to add some descriptive text, a new background or add another picture. At this point I will suggest you use PhotoStudio though pixelLab would equally produce some nice results.
