POTIPHAR’S WIFE

Text: “And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.” Gen 39:7

Potiphar’s wife is an example of someone we must all avoid by all means. She’s an example of someone who is ready to destroy a great destiny. Joseph had discovered the grace of God on his life. He knew in clear terms that God has a definite plan and purpose for his life. He also knew he had to protect what he had. This woman on the other hand does not have any sense of purpose at all. She was the wife of a highly placed man in the society and she was ready to stoop so low in shame.
The only way we can avoid such people in our lives is when we have a clear sense of purpose in life and we are ready to protect the privilege that God has given us. There are people like this that we must avoid by all means; not out of hatred but out of principle. The same experience that Joseph had could happen anywhere; in the office, in the church, in the school. We must be sensitive enough to escape for our lives.

The feelings that this woman had for Joseph was clearly a case of infatuation and not love. That was why she could tell such a lie when she did not have her way. Infatuation must never be mistaken for love. True love seeks to build, protect and preserve. Whatever pulls you apart spiritually and robs you of your sense of worth was never love in the first place. It was just a means to take advantage of you. This woman actually thought that since Joseph was a servant it will be easy to convince him. But thank God for Joseph who had a sense of purpose. He knew clearly that where he was going was far bigger than where he was. He was not ready to trade a great future with a sex escapade.

Someone is reading this today that needs to hear the voice of wisdom. God sent me to you to hear this clearly. Run for your life; that relationship will destroy you. By the time that boy is through with you he would have robbed you of your destiny. If you don’t stop that romance now it will stop you. Be warned.

In the name of Jesus I declare my escape today from every form of immorality.
