How To Leave a Godly Legacy?
In his book “First Things First” Stephen Covey teaches about a principle-centered approach that will transform the quality of our lives by showing us how to live, to love, to learn, and to leave a legacy. We need to recognize that the existence, importance, and variations of the four human dimensions are necessary for living a fulfilling life.
Physical: To Live
The physical dimension is the initial dimension. It's the realm of action, survival, and physical pleasure. It's simple to tap into this dimension through something as simple as sleeping, eating, yet the pleasure is fleeting and fades quickly.
Emotional: To Love
The emotional dimension comes next. It's a world where people feel a sense of belonging, care, connection, and love. Because this dimension affects other people, it necessitates greater effort. This pleasure is far more profound and meaningful than bodily pleasure. Because of our love for our families, we are willing to sacrifice physical pleasures.
Mental: To Learn
The mental dimension is higher up. It's an universe of discovery, comprehension, and creation. These activities take longer, require more thought, and demand more work than emotional activities. They are the activities that are at the heart of self-actualization, and they assist us in keeping our emotional and physical activities in check. It's the dimension that drives the political, corporate, and humanitarian realms, where people frequently sacrifice their emotional bonds in the pursuit of big-picture solutions.
Spiritual: To Leave A Legacy
The spiritual dimension is the highest dimension. It includes self-transcendence, a greater purpose, and leaving a legacy, in addition to self-actualization. It's the territory of faith and devotion to a higher power. It's all about exercising free will and doing the morally correct thing.
Conclusion
A person is working at a higher level when he is actively mindful of and living within these four human dimensions. Understanding them is essential for good health, happiness, and meaning.
Proverbs 13:22
New International Version
22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,
but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous.
How does this apply to us as Christians? Being Christians, we should be more aware of the spiritual dimension of our lives. This is because we are in constant contact through our daily prayers and walk with Jesus. Furthermore, as Christians, we know that we are only pilgrims here on earth and our true home is in heaven. Therefore, in our daily lives, we should place more emphasis on our spiritual dimension. We should ultimately strive to leave a godly legacy when we passed on. Because of the goodness that we have done as well the kindness and love that we have shown in the treatment of others, our Christian legacy continues to enrich people's lives and bring God praise for future generations even after we had left this world.
