A life lived without goals is a hazard waiting to become an incident (near miss or accident). Having goals in life is a pointer or an indicator to days to days or years unseen that will purposeful or purpose driven.


Hazard is anything (event or place) with the potential to cause harm to humans and the environment.

Living life without goal(s) is very injurious to you as a person and the society.

A small hazard caused by not having a goal can totally alter the arrangement of life and destiny.

Goal setting /getting is a significant for a deliberate tomorrow.

In order words a life without goals is guarantees future failure and a disoriented society.

Two major misconceptions about life, success and god that makes people to treat goal setting with levity:-

  1. What will be will be: it is not until they navigate life carefully before they can succeed; when it is time, they will make it.

  2. That God decides the fate to everyone has he pleases: therefore, it is not how systematic or articulated one is that guarantees break through or success as such, goal setting is a waste of time and try to force yourself achieve life.

What is a Goal?

A goal can be seen as something you desire and intend to achieve which is not yet feasible, but you believe it can be actualized. Example you want to be professor, but you can only have SSCE! Being or becoming a professor is the goal!!!


At the phase of having goals what matters he most is knowing what you want… in these case of becoming a professor. These leads us to the next phrase, goal setting.


WHAT IS GOAL SETTING?

Goal setting is the step by step approach tailored towards desired goal(s). it involves having a plan that is “SMART” (hab. 2:2-3, Luke 14 :28, proverb 16 :3, 21 :5, ecc 3: 17)

*Areas to set goals include the following but not limited:

  1. Education
  2. Family
  3. Career
  4. Finance
  5. leadership etc.

What is GOAL GETTING?

Goal getting can be described as the process of achieving your SMART plans thr4ough optimizing opportunities resources available to yen (per time) to actualized your goal(s).

For a more focused and time oriented results in goals setting, goals can be grouped into;

i) short term

ii) long term.

A short term goals may range months to three (3)8 or five (5) or ten (10) years.

A long term goals may take between fifteen to twenty years.

So the ability to recognize and prio
tize which goals comes as short or long term is one way to achieve success

One life goal can be the combination of the two, example you have a goal of becoming a professional with your SSCE.

The first place which could be seen as the short term loans is for you to have a first degree which will take cumulatively 4-5 years and then have a career in the tertiary education. Now you are one step closer to fulfilling your goal!

You can now use the achievement of the short term to pursue to lon term goals which will be to becoming a seminar lecturer and a doctor of philosophy in area of internet, and finally a reader and a publisher. They may take between 15-20 years.

In so doing, you would have achieved your short term and long term goals without allowing your other aspect of life to be stressed or neglected.

Goal setting / Goal Getting – The Importance

A goal set is a goal gotten; this implies that goals can never be achieved if not set.

Therefore the importance of goal setting and goal getting ca not be as it keeps one on track and purpose driven.

The inability to set goals and work towards achieving them makes them destiny abuse and inevitable.

In summary, goals setting/ getting is important because;

  1. specific results / outcome are achieved
    .

  2. put you in control of life pursuits
    .

  3. enhances focus on self-development
    .

  4. create room for accountability
    .

  5. given you something to strive for and bring out the best in you.

WHEN TO SET GOALS?

This is in specific time for goal setting. The moment a decision can be reached on right and wrong goals can be set.

HOW TO SET A GETABLE GOAL - THE PDCA APPROACH

After identifying a specific goal, the following approach is helpful in setting a goals.

  1. PLAN: have a plan that is SMART towards achieving the goal. Your plan is like a design.

  2. DO: this implies putting your smart plan into work. It may require breaking the work plan into smaller tasks taking into consideration all details as minute as possible. Talk the talk and work the talk!!!. Example: in order to become a graduate, you must fulfill all the requirement including reading the total credit. Hurrus and passing all exams create activities that will enable you achieve the goal.

  3. CHECK: as you are doing what is required of you to do it is expected of you to check if you are doing the thing in order to set the desires result(s). identify when there is failure and gap (knowledge, strength, finance).

  4. ACT: after a through evaluator or check of the likelihood of success or failure from the plan to the implementation, and having identified the SWOT(strength, weakness, opportunities and threats) in your goal, you have to cut according to ensure that the goal will be achieved.

In as much as a goal can be achieved, it can also be lost!

  7. Prevention: here conscious effort must be made to avoid at all cost the
    reasons your goals will not come through.

  8. Awareness: this is a state of enlightment concerning the goals you have o achieve. The depth of value placed on a treasure in directly proportional to the level of knowledge or awareness of the treasure in question. You must know what is involved, the risks and opportunities.

  9. Compliance: Everything as touching success have a principle, so in order to avoid loss, you have to comply with every requirement for the achievements of the goal.

  10. Detection: be conscious enough to detect when things are going in the wrong direction.

  11. Investigations: you must confirmly ask questions, read books, and product some findings about the goal in question, seek to know if the are persons that have achieved it before and vice versa.

  12. Resolution: in the face of adverse conditions, your resolution always must not be to quite. Your resolution must be to succeed.
