One of the major link of a Post's reward returning to the reward pool is either caused by early voting/Curation (curating when a vote is less than 5mins of age) or late voting Curation/voting (curating when a vote is 6days 12hrs of age).

Early voting(inside 5 mins age of a post)-- Lost curation reward returns to Reward Pool- True.

Voting beyond(6 Days 12 Hrs age of a post)-- Late curation-- Curation reward does not return to the Reward Pool, the only point is that the upvote value will be less, start depleting from 6 Days 12 Hrs (linearly) and becomes completely zero at 7 Days.

A curator is entitled to 100% upvote value as Curation reward when the Curator places the first upvote value on a post after 5mins of post age. This is also authenticated and guaranteed when the value of the said post is on $0 value. With this, a Curator can earn 100% or more reward on a post.

Even though the general voting window starts from 5 mins age of a post, it may not necessarily be after 5 mins for every curator. In trending posts, or in specific initiatives, contests, and challenges(e.g. crypto contest, steemit crypto academy, etc) the advanced curators/smart curators do vote inside 5 mins also(at 4 mins in general) and still gain significant curation rewards because in such a post many curators compete against each other, so even if you lose 20% curation reward(by voting at 4 mins), being an early voter in a trending/popular post, you gain significant curation reward.

The reverse auction is the counter-effective mechanism to strike a balance between the "early voter's advantage" and "curating after reading". This has been designed considering the fact that the average time to read a post in Steem Blockchain is 5 to 6 mins.

Three-point you should always consider in curation;-

• Time of your upvote
• Position of your upvote(preferably before a whale's vote)
• And if you remain in the first Voter(s) band ( $0-$1) then you are always a winner, even in an average post.

This simply shows that the Curator got even more than a 100% for his curation reward. This shows 125% reward value
