Crypto Academy Week 13-Homework post for @yousafharoonkhan
First of all, I would like to thank my professor @yousafharoonkhan for such a great lecture on centralized and decentralized social media. It is a great opportunity for us to explore new dimensions of social media and understand how to use it in an efficient way so that our lives become easier and smarter.
Question no.1: Write the definition of Decentralized and Centralized Social Media Platforms in your own words.
A social media platform is a computer-based technology that enables us to share our opinions, ideas, thoughts and knowledge via virtual networks and communities all across the world. Social media platforms are Internet based by design and allow users to quickly communicate and share their content. This content includes photos, personal data, videos, documents. Web-based software or applications enable users to connect to social media via a computer, tablet or smartphone. As we know that modern era of technology has transformed, a big number of social platform have been introduced by networking companies, globally. Here social media is divided into two types on the basis of network:
Centralized Social Media
Decentralized Social Media
Understanding these two types is very important here.
Centralized Social Media:
Centralized social media refers to such a network that has a central server which regulates the network by sharing data and also has an access to policy making. Data from users or clients are stored on servers and it has to determine who can access this data.
Decentralized Social Media:
Decentralized social media refers to such a network that is not dependent on one authority but allows more users to gain access and it also prevents client data from being commoditized and used unscrupulously. Freedom of speech is greater here because no single authority has power of what you users can or cannot write. Furthermore, cryptography protects interactions, leading to data protection and greater confidentiality.
|Centralized |vs. |Decentralized |
Social Networks
The first thing to remember here is that a centralized social media platform and a decentralized social networking platform has a big difference. There is one central data repository and a central authority in a centralized social network. In comparison, there is no central data repository or central regulatory authority in a decentralized network.
I would like to mention more differences below:
- Decentralized social network is more protected in terms of data than centralized social media because if central authority in centralized media runs off, then will be prone to be leaked and misused.
- As decentralized social networks are based on blockchain, so here no body owns data but in centralized social media data is owned by central authority.
- In decentralized social networks, policies are made by a consensus but in centralized social network there is no consensus and policy is made by only single authority.
- Decentralized social networks provide its users freedom of speech. Users can post their content, share their thoughts and opinions freely but on centralized social networks there is no such freedom of speech.
- Decentralized social networks have introduced tradable units like tokens and coins to their users but centralized networks does not provide such facility.
- Decentralized social media is more complex than centralized social media as every user has its own access.
- Regulation and up gradation is easier in centralized social media while in decentralized social media it is hard to control every user.
- Centralized social media is mostly used by governments to avoid any fuss in internet communities while decentralized social media is more prone to fuss and chaos.
Question no.2: Which One is The Future of Social media? Decentralized or centralized Social media.
The world is evolving so quickly that what will happen next, is an urgent question and only a decade ago, it was hard to wonder what will be the world without social networks. However, now my future vision has changed.
Centralized social media was introduced primarily. It gave a little freedom to users at first. In centralized media, one authority was responsible for policy making and giving access to users. Whatever content either it was a document or an image, video, the central server had the authority to share or receive data. But soon it transformed into a decentralized social media and the world shifted to it in no time and has proven to be future. It is because decentralized social offers more than centralized media. Freedom of speech, freedom of sharing content, freedom to earn money, freedom to advertise, and this all is offered by decentralized social media. One of its pioneer example is Steemit. Steemit based on decentralized social network and block chain platform, is one of the leading sites that has assured users; protection of data, earning opportunities and sharing their own content.
Question no. 3: How Steemit decentralization social media is best than Twitter and Facebook?
I will mention here some points that could indicate how Steemit is best than Twitter and Facebook.
Steemit better than Facebook:
- Steemit is more secure than Facebook because it is blockchain based. On Facebook even if we delete anything message or content, it stays still in servers of Facebook. But on Steemit, if we remove or delete our content, it deletes permanently.
- Freedom of speech on Steemit is more as compared to Facebook. Because on Facebook one has to follow community guidelines and if some of our content is not according to Facebook rules, it immediately removes it. But Steemit allows more freedom of expression.
- On Steemit we can earn by posting our content and we are not annoyed by advertisements here.
- Steemit is easy to engage with people as we can find our friends and colleagues easier than on Facebook.
- Steemit account is easy to create as compared to Facebook.
Steemit better than Twitter:
- Twitter is not an earning place directly as Steemit. On Steemit, we can post our content and we can withdraw our money but twitter does not makes us earn money in a simple way as posting content.
- Twitter is not secure as Steemit because it has been experienced by many Twitter users that their accounts got hacked and misused. But Steemit is much secure as it needs keys to access.
- We cannot post much on twitter as there is not much word count in a tweet. It may take a 4 tweets to write a 1000 words post. But on Steemit we can post all content in a single post.
Question no.4: What do you say? How do Steemit social media change the lives of millions of its users?
Online social networking is now part of people's daily lives and its use covers a strong need for human contact. Steemit is the most powerful social networking platform built on blockchains and incorporates the social media service as a major novelty in economic terms. Steemit is applied over Steem, which rewards crypto-monetary blocks miners, as in other blockchains. It has been a promising platform for talented users that are good at something. Whatever we do, we can post here like we can share our daily life routines, write about any topic or even post our daily meal recipe. From all this we can earn a good amount of money. Moreover, the blockchain based platform has given its users an exposure of cryptocurrency, its trading and all aspects that can be useful for traders. Users have learnt how to buy and sell coins, make profits from crypto trades, know about tokens (NFT’s) and much more.
Steemit users feel secure and satisfied here as there is no harm of getting hacked or data leak. This has enticed many social media to shift on Steemit because of its privacy.
Question no.5: How can we make money with Steemit's decentralized social media?
Steemit offers much more easier way to earn than any other site. On Steemit, I have made money by sharing my content. I have participated in diary games and posted my routine stuff. I have also posted about my cooking skills. I believe whatever we are good at, we can post and earn money. We can earn up votes by commenting on posts. When we write posts here, we get a reward as an author and when we comment and up vote a post, we get a reward as a curator.
Question no.6: How to create communities on Steemit social media (Practical step by step)
Now I will you about how to create communities on Steemit because it is an important way to create a platform for a specific topic. So for this I will demonstrate with a help of screenshots.
Step I

Conclusion
I am thankful to my professor for such an inspiring lecture. I see decentralized social networks as a future in coming years because it has provided more opportunities to earn a good livelihood. Moreover, decentralized networks are secure and easy to access than centralized networks. Lastly Steemit can be very beneficial for its users, if we interact in a positive sense and help communities grow in an efficient way.

Thanks for your review sir..
Sir, there were 6 questions that had to be answered. The academy has spoken of answering between 300 words to 1000 words.I have tried to give my best in this entire situation..
Good, keep up the good work and try to get more familiar with everything about Steemit for better growth and future on Steemit.
