Reputation is a word that mean so much to many people and organizations alike. Everytime, we hear of entities and individuals protecting or enhancing their reputation.

Reputation is just about how people view you whether favorably or unfavorably. It is people's perception about you or an entity which could either be positive or negative.

Same is true in the steemit ecosystem. The reputation of a user is known by the reputation score on his front page.

So what is this reputation that we usually see as numbers in our steemit user page?

What is reputation? Explain.

It is a way of determining the input and value created by the user within the ecosystem. It is also a way determining and controlling abuses or spams within the steemit ecosystem.

Every user starts with a reputation score of 25. As the user continues to makes quality post and he is being upvoted, the reputation score continues to increase. It is good to note that, a users reputation score rises very fast between the score of 25 to about 60 and then takes more time to grow from there.

Usually when accounts with higher steem power than yours votes at a specific range of time from when the publication is made, it gives a higher value of reputation to the account being voted on.

A users reputation determines his level of success. A higher reputation also enhances a users visibility on the platform. Sometimes, some user scan through high reputation user to chose whom to read his article and curate on it.

Additionally, the higher reputation we have the more reputation our votes will give to other users.

What is your reputation? Explain step by step how that reputation is determined, show screenshots.

Currently, my reputation score is 77.711. Kindly see the screenshot below.

To explain how our reputation score is gotten, we need to know about Raw score. The reputation score is shown in two modes

👉Simplified reputation - which is the score we see on our dashboard (just two digits)

👉Raw reputation - this is usually represented by values in big digits. It would be in millions, billions and trillions.

Unfortunately, as at the time.of writing the site (https://steemd.com/@ngoenyi) was not opening so that I can do a screenshot of my raw reputation.

However, the raw reputation is used to calculate the simplified one on the dashboard.

To calculate, follow the steps below.

° Get the raw reputation of the score you want to calculate

° Then find Log base 10 of our score (Raw reputation )

° once gotten, subtract 9 from the answer

° then multiply the balance by 9

° finally add 25 to the figure

°. The next thing is to round up to the nearest whole number.

See an example below

Assuming a person has a simplified reputation score of 60, let us now calculate it using the raw score. I already have a table of raw score .

The raw reputation for 60 is = 7742636826811.

Find Log base 10 of 7742636826811 = 12.88888889.

Subtracting 9 from the answer above

12.88888889 - 9 = 3.88888889

Multiplying the answer by 9

3.888888899 = 35*

Finally, add 25 to the answer above

25 + 35 = 60

Which was the simplified reputation score.

So, the computer uses the raw reputation to give us what we have in the dashboard.

What methods do you currently use to raise your reputation? explain.

The major way of raising our reputation in steemit is by attracting upvotes from curators with higher reputation scores and high steem power.

When i get such upvotes on my posts and comments, it increases my reputation score. This implies that i add value by active engagement on the steemit platform.

So i need to make quality posts regularly and also make quality comments on peoples post to attract curators.

Other things i do to increase my reputation includes

Avoid plagiarism, spamming and abuse -

This Is seriously discouraged within the ecosystem. If a person is caught doing so, it will result to warning and subsequently lack of support from the platform.

Can your reputation drop in score? explain.

For a certainty, the answer is yes. The reputation score can drop. This happens when the user is found culpable of certain illegal activities within the platform.

Some of these illegal activities are spamming, plagiarism, account farming and other forms of abuse.

In most cases, when these illegal activities are identified, the user is downvoted.

A user can downvote another user. But to affect the reputation score, the user down voting will have a higher steem power than the person being downvoted. It is only in this situation that the user's reputation score can be reduced.

So to reduce a person's reputation score, a downvote from a user with higher steem power is required.

Conclusion

It is very ideal for users to know about reputation, how to gain it as well as what can lead a person to lose his reputation on the platform.

This will motivate the user to engage more on the platform while avoiding those things that would lead to downvote, thus reducing his reputation score.

It has been a great learning section again this week. I am glad to have written about reputation as it has broadened my knowledge. I will like @karianaporras, @goodybest and @ruthjoe to come and join in this contest
Good luck to you all

The whole raw score thing sounds a bit complex, but it's awesome that the software does the heavy lifting for us and gives us the simplified reputation we see on our dashboard. Overall, your post was informative and well-written. Good luck in the contest! 😊

The complexity of the raw data may not be comprehended by every user, this is why the simplified data is there for us. But I have no problem with those digits as I have dealt t with them during my school years. I appreciate your being able to go through my entry and finding it informative. We learn daily

The is indeed an explicit and very understandable publication you have made about reputation, I was eager to see how you were going to calculate your reputation but unfortunately, the site was not responding as you said, I still learnt from the example you gave though so its a win-win situation.
