Steemit Crypto Academy | S4Week3 - Blockchain Technology in the Healthcare industry | Homework Post for @yohan2on

Hello Steemit Crypto Academy community, for me it is a pleasure to be here with you, and very especially performing this task in the framework of the fourth season, third week of Steemit Crypto Academy, with cryptoprofessor @yohan2on, in which he asks us to investigate the topic Blockchain Technology in the Healthcare industry.

Particularly this topic unites two great passions in my life, on the one hand the Blockchain, world in which I am immersed for 4 years uninterruptedly and also the area of health, since I am a doctor, and really for me it would be a dream come true to see materialized globally the integration of Blockchain technology in the area of health.

INTRODUCTION

The blockchain has characteristics that allow its applicability in many areas, health is one of them, I will mention the most relevant aspects of this technology that for me allow its use in the health sector:

  • Traceability: This implies that you can easily track the route that any operation takes, since these are public, there is no way to hide them. (there are currencies, such as Monero, that do allow this, but in general terms they can be tracked).
  • Distributed / decentralized: It is well known that transactions are recorded in blocks, and these are managed by powerful computer processors, which in turn are in the hands of different people who are generally in various parts of the world collaborating with the maintenance of the Blockchain. This is decentralization, since the control of the information does not fall on a single person.

  • Secure: the information is stored in Blocks, each one of these has information of the one that precedes it and also shares information with the one that follows it, making it practically impossible to modify once it has been registered, that is to say, it is Immutable, which makes it an excellent way to make registrations.

  • Privacy: this term cannot and should not be confused with anonymity, since it is really possible to know who is the sender and the receiver of a transfer (either information, coins, etc.), since the transactions are public, you can see the wallets that participate in a movement but not know who are the people behind them, unless they themselves say so.

My thoughts on the matter:

Based on the characteristics I have mentioned, I will discuss the advantages and possible uses that the use of the Blockchain can bring in the operation of the health area:

  • Data recording and the ease of access to it: medical records in many places are kept on paper (which implies in itself spending millions of dollars in stationery in addition to people who are responsible for keeping that information in files), which wastes a lot of time, not only filling the records but once the patient has left the hospital, having access to this information is something that takes a lot of time.

Clearly this problem could be solved, for example, by doctors storing this information in the patient's account hosted on Blockchain, where everything will be recorded, with the patient having immediate access when needed, without having to ask for appointments or any bureaucratic processes when specific information is required. (eliminating intermediaries)

By having our histories recorded in Blockchain, we could give quick access to our history, saving hours of our time and healthcare staff, and having faster care.

This would even eliminate an even bigger problem, which is the issue of economic and personal resources, the time spent in organizing all that information, which always implies having a group of workers specifically for that purpose.

  • It facilitates the control of the use of drugs in hospitals and clinics, since there is no possibility of changing the information that is recorded, and traceability would allow us to know the entire route of a particular drug, since it arrives at the hospital until it is used in a patient(even long before).

  • An important point is that allowing the traceability of drugs makes this a great tool for pharmaceutical companies, as it would be a way to eliminate the possibility of sales of counterfeit drugs, because by keeping the record of each production batch it is easy for any hospital or pharmacy to detect whether the origin of the drug is legal or not. This would avoid multimillionaire losses to the companies, besides not being exposed to the purchase of irregular medicines.

I have focused on talking about intra-hospital use of Blockchain technology, however, as cryptoprofessor @yohan2on mentions in his class Steemit Crypto Academy | S4Week3 - Blockchain Technology in the Healthcare industry, it is clear that the pharmaceutical company could benefit greatly from its use by preventing through this technological tool the counterfeiting of drugs.

However, I wanted to emphasize the benefits that the Blockchain would have on patients (by having a better backup of their information, and quick access to it), on health care workers in the streamlining of data, and how it impacts on the optimization of care, as well as saving economic resources and time.

Conclusion

I hope to soon see more widespread use of blockchain in all sectors, most especially in healthcare, as it provides all of us workers and patients with many benefits, including the security of our data, which is a fundamental aspect to consider in this area.

Thank you very much professor @yohan2on for this class, hoping to have fulfilled the requirements for your good assessment.
