Hello, Dear Dreamers (with big hearts ;-))

Sometimes things come thick and fast... We are currently helping @isabelpena with her lengthy and expensive cancer treatment - but we can't rest on our laurels.

After a number of requests for donations recently, which turned out to be less than serious, we were a little cautious and reluctant when @ameh123's request appeared. He repeatedly described the health predicament of his brother, who is dependent on regular dialysis following the failure of both kidneys. This exhausting treatment has already been very cost-intensive for two years; to finance it, the whole family has already sold their house and is now living together in an unacceptably cramped space.

The only chance of a reasonably healthy life for the affected brother is a kidney transplant. A price is charged for this in Nigeria, which in my view is indecent, but the prices quoted are absolutely correct, as I discovered after some research.

On the one hand, I am very glad that there is a very good standard of medicine there to give hope to people who are so seriously ill. On the other hand... We know how poor and affected by various crises the people and the country as a whole are right now. So this theoretical hope seems a little deceptive...!

However, I had personal contact with two treatment centres where Samuel was treated.
The procedure was started at the Zenith Centre two years ago, but further treatment was continued in various clinics. This could be due to the distance from home or possibly higher costs than in the smaller centres.

Regular dialysis sessions are currently taking place at King's Care Hospital. There is a kind of data protection there too, so I couldn't get any binding statements about the specific patient and his prospects. I think that is good and right. However, I received confirmation that the presented receipt is authentic and that the patient will continue to receive regular treatment there. This should suffice for me as proof of the authenticity of the situation described.

Perhaps it is enough for you, too - we can't work miracles and pay the treatment costs. But we can do our little bit to help a family take some smaller financial worries to bed at night. @wox-helpfund has already contributed generously and made a direct donation: thank you very much!

We will take 50 STEEM from our once again severely shrunken donation pool and make it available after the three-day waiting period.
In addition, @ameh123 will receive a 10% benefit on all posts from my private and the Community and Charity Accounts of the Dream Steem Community for the rest of May.

What I should wish you and your family, @ameh123, is not quite clear: hopefully you can continue the treatment and maybe at some point a way will be found to make the transplant possible. The fact that you as a family are ready for a living donation is a sign to me that you stick together and are there for each other!

On a personal note, Ty-ty's granddaughter was born without kidneys and has been living with transplants for 15 years now. She is a wonderful young girl and I don't like to think she would not have had this chance. Her privilege of being born in a country with a health insurance system seems to make all the difference...

Hallo, liebe Träumer (mit großen Herzen ;-))

Manchmal überschlagen sich die Dinge… Wir helfen derzeit @isabelpena bei ihrer langwierigen und teuren Krebstherapie – aber darauf ausruhen können wir uns nicht.

Nachdem es in letzter Zeit etliche Anfragen nach Spenden gab, die sich als eher wenig seriös herausstellten, waren wir ein wenig vorsichtig und zurückhaltend, als das Gesuch von @ameh123 auftauchte. Mehrfach schilderte er die gesundheitliche Zwangslage seines Bruders, der nach dem Versagen beider Nieren auf regelmäßige Dialyse angewiesen ist. Diese kräftezehrende Behandlung ist bereits seit zwei Jahren sehr kostenintensiv; zu deren Finanzierung hat die ganze Familie bereits ihr Haus verkauf und lebt jetzt auf unzumutbar beengtem Raum zusammen.

Die einzige Chance auf ein einigermaßen gesundes Leben bietet dem betroffenen Bruder eine Nierentransplantation. Hierfür wird in Nigeria ein Tarif aufgerufen, der aus meiner Sicht unanständig ist, aber die angegeben Preise sind absolut zutreffend, wie ich nach einigen Recherchen feststellen mußte.

Ich bin einerseits sehr froh, daß es dort einen durchaus guten medizinischen Standard gibt, um auch so schwer erkrankten Menschen Hoffnung zu geben. Andererseits… Wir wissen, wie arm und von diversen Krisen betroffen die Menschen und das Land insgesamt gerade sind. Da wirkt diese theoretische Hoffnung schon ein wenig trügerisch…!

Wie auch immer: ich hatte persönlichen Kontakt mit zwei Behandlungszentren, in denen Samuel versorgt wurde. Im Zenith Center wurde vor zwei Jahren mit dem Verfahren begonnen, die weitere Behandlung allerdings in diversen Kliniken fortgesetzt. Das könnte durch die Entfernung vom Wohnort begründet sein oder ggf. durch höhere Kosten als in den kleineren Häusern.

Im King‘s Care Hospital finden aktuell die regelmäßigen Dialysesitzungen statt. Eine Art Datenschutz gibt es auch dort; so konnte ich keine verbindlichen Aussagen zum konkreten Patienten und seinen Aussichten bekommen. Das empfinde ich auch als gut und richtig. Mir wurde aber bestätigt, daß die vorliegende Quittung authentisch ist und der Patient regulär dort weiter behandelt wird. Das soll mir als Beleg für die Echtheit der geschilderten Situation genügen.

Vielleicht reicht es Euch auch aus – wir können keine Wunder bewirken und die Behandlungskosten übernehmen. Aber wir können unser kleines Teilchen dazu beitragen, daß eine Familie abends etwas kleinere finanzielle Sorgen mit ins Bett nimmt. @wox-helpfund hat bereits großzügig beigetragen und eine Direktspende veranlaßt: vielen lieben Dank dafür!

Wir entnehmen 50 STEEM aus unserem wieder einmal arg geschrumpften Spendenpool und stellen ihn nach den drei Tagen Wartezeit zur Verfügung. Außerdem wird auch @ameh123 für den Rest des Monats Mai mit 10% Beneficiaries an allen Posts von meinem Privaten und den Community und Charity Accounts der Dream Steem Community beteiligt.

Was ich Dir und Euch wünschen soll, @ameh123, ist nicht ganz klar: hoffentlich könnt Ihr die Behandlung fortsetzen und vielleicht findet sich irgendwann ein Weg, die Transplantation zu ermöglichen. Daß Ihr als Familie zur Lebendspende bereit seid, ist für mich jedenfalls ein Zeichen, daß Ihr zusammen haltet und füreinander da seid!

Noch eine persönliche Bemerkung: die Enkelin von Ty-ty wurde ohne Nieren geboren und lebt seit mittlerweile 15 Jahren mit Transplantaten. Sie ist ein wunderbares junges Mädchen und ich mag mir nicht vorstellen, sie hätte diese Chance nicht gehabt. Ihr Privileg, in einem Land mit Krankenversicherungssystem geboren zu sein, scheint den großen Unterschied zu machen...
