Story10 : The Homeless

Sarah worked as a part-time cook after college every day in this restaurant. She was surprised when she saw this man sitting on the footpath in front of the restaurant that evening. He was a middle-aged man, around 53, in a worn-out pair of trousers and a shirt.

He was shivering but sitting unconcerned with the surroundings, looking at the sky. Then she shrugged her shoulders, thinking he was probably a homeless guy who had nowhere to go.

She felt for this man and gave him some leftover food after her shift that night. Then she saw him often sitting right in front of the restaurant, at the same spot, and felt pity for him. The man acknowledged her kindness every time she gave him food, and she also felt a sense of satisfaction.

He always said, "How kind of you, young lady."

That night, Sarah's shift was finally over at 10. She took off her apron and threw it in her cupboard. But before leaving for the house, she went into the kitchen to get the leftover food for John, the homeless.

As she stepped out of the door, she felt surprised because John was not there at his usual place. Tonight he was standing by the wall and gestured to Sarah to come close to him.

For a moment, Sarah hesitated a little. John was always happy to see her, accept the food she offered, and chat with her about her restaurant, her boss, and her education. But today, she thought he was behaving differently.

This was the contest story, now this is my story:

  
Sarah felt surprised when she saw that John was not waiting for her at his usual place. This time he was standing by the wall in a street and gestured for her to come close to him.

Sarah was confused but walked to the street, where John was waiting for her in the dark. Sarah’s sixth sense told her that something was wrong. The man looked a little nervous, and the friendly smile on his face was missing.

Was he going to do something with her?

Trying her best to stay away from the restaurant lights, John whispered, "Come here fast, I have something to tell you."

Sarah hesitantly walked towards him, but her heart was beating fast. Has she made the right decision? If that man had done something to her in the dark, no one would have known about it. And how well did she know John? She knew he was homeless and felt bad for his situation, that’s all. But tonight, he was behaving very strangely!

Sarah thought for a moment, then decided to go and talk to him. She thought John was a very well-behaved person and did not look like he would harm anyone, least of all her.

But it was becoming increasingly difficult for her to make a decision. But she plodded down the street while John kept calling her name. "Hurry, Sarah, before anyone sees you!"

Once she was away from the restaurant, she looked straight into John’s eyes. He looked very different from his normal self tonight and had a bright, warm look in his eyes.

He whispered, "You must do something for me!"

Sarah felt shocked to see John’s attitude and wanted to leave immediately when John revealed who he really was and what he was doing there.

She started cursing herself after listening to John! How could she fall into his trap? But she didn’t have time to worry. Now it was time to take action!

She went back to the restaurant with John and opened the door with her key. And then John hurried forward and took a badge out of his pocket. "Crime Branch! Raise your hands!"

There was only Sarah’s boss inside the building, and he looked very frightened. But instead of raising his hands in the air like an innocent, he tried to flee from there.

Within seconds, the restaurant turned into a crime movie scene. Sarah was amused. Her boss was the owner of a restaurant. He might not be on the FBI’s list of criminals, or could he be? What did he do to try and run away like this?

John was now walking surprisingly well, and he was able to control it at the right time, and then John handcuffed the restaurant owner.

He later told Sarah that he had been secretly keeping an eye on the restaurant for months because he suspected that a large amount of money was being laundered there.

He also thanked Sarah for her services and for the food she gave him. He added, "I was sitting here to keep a watch on the activities," and smiled. John offered a part-time job to Sarah in his department. Later, she became John’s personal private assistant and helped him solve many of his cases.

Sarah continued her education and then, after studying criminology, became a full-time staff member of the Crime Branch.
