Contest: The Keyword of the Week/ ICE AGE

in Dream Steemlast year (edited)
Six months had passed since they had started working on this project. They considered that only up to ten percent land close to Indian Ocean was left green, but the rest of the earth's surface had turned white. Vasu the chief Indian neuclear scientist was in touch with a German rocket sceintist to solve this problem.

This all started with a series of volcano explosions, and the entire atmosphere was filled with ash particles that had stopped sun rays from reaching the earth, and the earth was filled with ice. Was it a sign of the Ice Age coming to grip the Earth?

The snow had covered a lot of area, and the entire human civilization was confined to this thin strip covering approximately 10% of the entire Earth's land area. In this limited strip, civilization has to make its best efforts to stop the invasion of ice. However, the scientists were unable to plan properly despite their best efforts.

Now they were in a situation where they could have done anything out of desperation! But the Indian scientist Vasu was more hopeful now that they had come up with a plan and were ready to release their rockets.

Vasu was standing at the space center close to the first rocket launcher, eagerly waiting for the mission to begin.

"We are ready," said the expedition chief.

"Fire then."

He was annoyed at having to wait to start this campaign.

The chief pressed a button. The next few moments brought a lot of anxiety for all of them. Then the gleaming rocket shot up into the sky, spewing orange flames. The victory campaign over Ice Age had begun. Everyone heaved a sigh of relief.

Several satellites had already been launched from this space center to get information about the atmosphere. The rocket launched this time was designed to fill the atmosphere with hot metallic particles. But it all depended on whether this and other rockets to be launched from the equatorial belt worked and did their jobs perfectly.

Launchpads were ready to launch similar rockets in different places in that small strip of land that was still not yet covered with ice. Since the plan was the brainchild of Vasu, he was given the honor of presiding over the first launch.

For the first time, a smile appeared on his face as he looked at the instruments on the panel in front of him. He picked up the phone and started speaking.

"They had started their campaign using all their available fire power, satellites, etc that could reach high in the sky and spread those particles in the atmosphere.

These scientists knew that all their efforts were under observation, as the entire human race was anxiously looking at them. These satellites were playing their roles well until then.

And what was the invasion? Actually, it was an ambitious plan to shower small particles of metal on the atmosphere. These particles would absorb the heat of the sun and settle down on the ground.

This was the plan of Vasu, as he hoped that by now the ash particles from the eruption of volcanoes—which had mixed in the atmosphere, no longer allowing sunlight to reach the earth—would have settled down.

Vasu was expecting that a shower of hot metallic particles they were going to throw into the atmosphere would make up for the damage done by the ash from Valconos.

But was that enough? He wondered—the snowflakes scattered in the atmosphere had to be reduced immediately.

Vasu knew that this could only happen by heating the atmosphere with explosives. For this, Vasu has put a condition on using weapon technology in a constructive way instead of a destructive one.

All the countries that had reached the brink of destruction happily accepted this condition and started working in the spirit of cooperation. Thus, six months were spent finding ways to heat the atmosphere with the energy released in an explosive way.

At the end of these combined efforts, one question still remained unanswered: "Will this method work, and they will be able to stop the Ice Age from coming back?"

By the time the month of October came, the answer to this question had also been found. The answer was in favor of mankind. First of all, the frozen ice in the plains of the rivers started melting. Soon after that, large areas from Nepal to Mumbai began to be freed from ice.

Fernando called from Sri Lanka, "Many congratulations to Vasu! We have won. The dust is rapidly disappearing from the atmosphere. The entire earth's atmosphere is getting warmer. Vasu is really great."

A satisfied look was visible on Vasu's face. As a scientist who overcame all these difficulties and achieved success, fellow scientists also appreciated his work. But deep down inside, he still had a sense of worry and uncertainty.

They won this war, but the real war was yet to come. As is often the case, after giving all his strength in a battle, even the victor wears it down. One can pause for a moment and pat himself on the back for his achievements.

But the bigger problem was still lurking large in front of them and had yet to be solved because, due to this ice age, the human population had been reduced by half.

A lot of energy and other necessary resources were used on this mission. And now the melting snow threatens massive flooding. Will humans continue to face these problems in the future with a spirit of cooperation?

Thinking of this, sweat broke out on Vasu's forehead. He was sweating for the first time in the last two years, ever since this Ice Age had taken over this part of the world.

At first it sounds dystopian ... Then it seems as if humanity, science, had a chance to oppose the forces of nature.

Both ideas scare me a little.

Zuerst klingt es dystopisch... Dann scheint es so, als ob die Menschheit, die Wissenschaft, eine Chance hätte, den Naturgewalten etwas entgegenzusetzen.

Beide Vorstellungen machen mir ein wenig Angst.

Ice Age in itself is a scary idea, so let's face the reality!

Scrat and Sid were quiet happy with it ;-)) You know the context...?

As a fiction writer yes but as an engineer I have stopped toying with such ideas although I used to be a fan of Chris, I hope you know what I mean!
