Feathered Friends - A Red Robin Wednesday
Welcome to a Red Robin Wednesday at Feathered Friends
Today there where Robins all over the place. They showed up about two dozen or so strong this afternoon and decided to stick around for a bit.
The Robins are perching up in the trees and swooping down to the base to scratch and feed on insects, worms and grubs. With the warmer weather and calm winds recently I've noticed a big increase in local bird activity. They are thinking it's Spring already too.
This one here is on sentry duty. Keeping a watchful eye out for danger.
As the sentries keep a lookout the others swoop to the ground to scratch around and feed.
This one carefully eyes the fresh scratches for movement O.o
Ah ha !!!
This one hit pay dirt and ends up with some form of..... well something....
Sentry one reports all clear and goes back to eyeing the juicy worms being found below...
Sentry two sings out a warning call.
Apparently it's a serious one because about a second after it sings out all poop breaks loose and birds are scattering everywhere echoing the warring. Less than a minute later there is not a bird to be found <,< >,>
Also Not a peep.. er chip to be heard.
As I was packing it up to go inside for a bit I saw the problem.
Unfortunately I had just adjusted the lens down to 150 mm from 600 mm to stow it so I didn't get a very close shot of this bird, the cause of all the hoopla a few minutes ago.
It's a good ways off so I couldn't get an ID on it but it does look a lot like the Red Tail Hawks that are common in the area.
Whatever predator bird it was it cleared out every bird within a mile of me, even the Gulls and Crows flew the coop.
A couple of new Daises for the Ladies ;)
