Aceh Tamiang Grief, Thousands of Residents Forced to Evacuate Due to Floods.

Floods have hit Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh Province, Indonesia since October 31. The flood was caused by heavy rains that flushed the area, so that the Aceh Tamiang river overflowed and submerged the residents' settlements.

The flood continues to spread to 12 sub-districts, so far 7,401 people from 2,250 families have been forced to evacuate to 190 points. Meanwhile, residents who were affected by the flood but did not evacuate were 10,447 households or 34,730 people.

The flood that did not subside resulted in 44 villages being isolated and 125 villages submerged by floods. The Regent of Aceh Tamiang, Musril, has determined the disaster response status in Aceh Tamiang District for 14 days. The determination is effective from October 31 to November 13, 2022.

The status of the Flood Emergency Response is in accordance with the Decree of the Regent of Aceh Tamiang Number: 45/1140/2022, concerning the Determination of the Status of Emergency Response for the Handling of Flood Natural Disasters in Aceh Tamiang Regency in 2022, October 31, 2022.

To several media, Regent Mursil said that the emergency response status was to facilitate the performance of the integrated team to deal with floods that occurred widely in the district.

Meanwhile, land transportation access currently looks completely paralyzed in the area, the Aceh - North Sumatra highway can only be passed by large vehicles. Based on the video circulating, several trucks and buses were desperate to break through the flood. Meanwhile, several cars broke down in the middle of a flood, so residents had to be evacuated.

To note, the Seumadam area which cannot be passed by vehicles is located on the border with North Sumatra. When viewed from the national highway, the distance from the Seumadam area to the border gate is about 3.5 kilometers.

Previously, the floods that hit Aceh Tamiang also submerged the Banda Aceh-Medan national road. The road is said to be impassable so that the traffic flow is totally jammed.
